In 1978, George Humphrey's son, Gilbert W.<br />

[Humphrey], was chairman <strong>of</strong> Hanna Mining Co., director<br />

National City Bank <strong>of</strong> Cleveland, Sun Life Assurance,<br />

National Steel, Massey Ferguson, General Reinsurance,<br />

and St. John del Rey Mining Co. M.A. Hanna Co., <strong>the</strong><br />

holding <strong>com</strong>pany, was liquidated in 1965, and its $700<br />

million assets distributed to its stockholders.<br />

The National City Bank <strong>of</strong> Cleveland's influence was not<br />

limited to <strong>the</strong> Hanna and Humphrey families. As <strong>the</strong> Ohio<br />

Connection <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> House <strong>of</strong> Rothschild, it guided <strong>the</strong>
