<strong>RISD</strong> students regularly seek internships, educationally-based experiences,<br />

that enable them to work alongside established artists, designers and creative<br />

professionals who serve as mentors and assist them with learning new skills<br />

and techniques. Internships compliment the <strong>RISD</strong> academic experience and<br />

enable students to apply their education to the professional world while<br />

providing exposure to professionals and their networks. Employers who<br />

hire <strong>RISD</strong> interns acquire first-hand knowledge of their individual skill sets,<br />

talents and capabilities and gain knowledge of those who are a good fit for the<br />

company for full-time, part-time and freelance opportunities after graduation.<br />

The Career Center works with select employers to coordinate meetings<br />

and tours of academic departments at <strong>RISD</strong>. These experiences provide an<br />

opportunity to learn in detail about departments and their curriculum first<br />

hand, engage with our award-winning faculty, visit studio facilities and<br />

witness student work in process. Arrangements can be made to include<br />

a tour of selected student galleries, the <strong>RISD</strong> Museum of Art, and the<br />

Edna Lawrence Nature Lab.<br />

Each spring, graduate students, seniors,<br />

and juniors meet with more than 200<br />

diverse companies and organizations,<br />

<strong>from</strong> a wide range of disciplines to get<br />

immediate feedback on their portfolio<br />

and presentation skills. Take advantage<br />

of this opportunity to experience <strong>RISD</strong><br />

talent first hand. The interaction between<br />

students and reviewers enables students<br />

to further develop their interview skills<br />

and to network professionally for<br />

upcoming jobs, internships, and<br />

opportunities. Companies gain immediate<br />

insights to students and their work, the<br />

type of talent students possess and<br />

the potential match of students to the<br />

upcoming hiring needs of the company.<br />

The Guest Artist/Designer is an emerging program at <strong>RISD</strong> that will<br />

provide the chance for selected artists and designers to share their expertise in<br />

an educationally based workshop series for students. Workshops may take place<br />

during the <strong>RISD</strong> Wintersession (January through mid-February) or in the summer<br />

and could include: introductory instruction on critical skill sets relevant to applying<br />

for internships or jobs in their field; hands on demonstrations and tutorials that<br />

provide exposure to new techniques; materials and/or software; and in-depth<br />

portfolio reviews with individual students who seek to enter the field. As an<br />

Guest Artist/Designer one would have access to <strong>RISD</strong> facilities:<br />

Fleet Library, the <strong>RISD</strong> Museum and their special collections as well as<br />
