SECTION 09900
PAINTING
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 SCOPE
A. Provide Painting work as indicated by the Contract Documents.
B. Examine carefully the Specifications as a whole for work, and be familiar with their provisions for painting.
C. Painting subcontractor shall be responsible for installation of latex caulking as specified in Section 07920.
D. Work in this section includes but is not limited to the following items:
1. Building exterior including mechanical and electrical items:
a. Hollow metal doors and frames.
b. Mechanical and electrical items on the exterior of the roof of the building that are exposed to the
weather including ferrous metal pipe.
c. Other exposed ferrous metal surfaces that are not included above.
d. Other non-ferrous metal surfaces that are not included above that are exposed to public view.
e. Exposed wood surfaces, such as blocking, trim, etc.
f. Exterior concrete columns.
2. Building interior including mechanical and electrical items:
a. Hollow metal frames.
b. Steel handrails, metal stairs and ladders.
c. Drywall surfaces not scheduled for other finish.
d. Ceiling grid where noted in the Drawings.
e. Exposed ferrous metal surfaces that are not listed above.
f. Exposed wood surfaces, such as blocking, doors and trim.
g. Exposed finished concrete floors as indicated in the Drawings.
h. Diffusers, registers and grilles shown on drawings to be painted to match the surrounding surface.
E. Work specified elsewhere that relates to this Section includes:
1. Miscellaneous Metals - Section 05500.
2. Steel Stairs - Section 05510.
3. Sheet Metal Flashing and Trim - Section 07620.
4. Sealants and Caulking - Section 07920.
5. Metal Doors and Frames - Section 08100.
6. Gypsum Wallboard - Section 09250.
7. Acoustical Ceilings - Section 09510.
1.02 DELIVERY AND STORAGE
A. Schedule deliveries to avoid delays and to prevent greater accumulations than can be suitably stored at the site.
B. Store and mix materials in the assigned spaces. Protect floor if it is a finished surface.
C. Gasoline and kerosene shall be stored outside the building in suitable containers marked as to their contents.
D. Oily rags and debris shall be removed from the building at the end of each work period.
E. Assigned storage shall be kept neat and clean. Keep paints covered.
F. Deliver materials in their original unopened containers showing the name of the manufacturer, the grade, and
brand, which shall be subject to the Architect's inspection.
1.03 SUBMITTALS
A. Refer to Section 01340 - Submittals.
B. Submit (2) 6"x6" samples of each paint color including texture to architect two weeks before ordering
materials.
B. Provide product data or MSDS indicating VOC emissions in grams/liter (g/L) for the following products:
1. Interior paints & coatings to comply with standards identified in Section 01352 IAQ Management.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.01 MATERIALS
A. Paint materials and wood stain materials shall be best grade and appropriate type as manufactured by
Benjamin-Moore Company, Sherwin-Williams, Pratt and Lambert, Pittsburg Paints, Glidden.
