LIGHT GAUGE METAL FRAMING
1.01 SCOPE OF WORK
A. Furnish a complete Lightgauge Metal Framing installation including, but not limited to: welded connections,
clip angles, fasteners, diagonal wall bracing, stiffeners, diagonal wall bracing straps, tracks, metal studs,
horizontal lateral bracing and all miscellaneous accessories which may be required for a complete installation
in accordance with the manufacturer's installation standards, without any additional cost to the Owner.
B. Work will include:
1. Exterior non-load bearing wall studs.
a. Deflection limits: L/600 for masonry veneer, L/360 for EIFS.
2. Interior non-load bearing wall studs.
a. Deflection limits: L/240
3. Any other lightgage framing system noted on the Drawings.
1.02 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Codes and Standards: Comply with provisions of the following codes, standards and specifications, except
as otherwise shown and specified.
1. ASTM A653/A653m - Standard Specification for Steel Sheet, Zinc-Coated (Galvanized) or Zinc-Iron
Alloy-Coated (Galvannealed) by the Hot-Dip Process
2. ASTM A924/A924m - Standard Specification for General Requirements for Steel Sheet, Metallic-
Coated by the Hot-Dip Process.
3. AWS D1.3 - Structural Welding Code - Sheet Steel
4. AWS D19.0 - Welding Zinc Coated Steel
5. ANSI Z49.1 - Safety in Welding, Cutting and Allied Processes
6. AISI Specification for the Design of Cold Formed Steel Structural Members
B. Manufacturer's Standard: Lightgauge framing shall be equivalent to Steel Stud Manufacturers Association
(SSMA) published standards and installation recommendations, which will be used as a quality standard
reference in the event the Contractor furnishes materials in which the submitted manufacturer does not have a
published installation manual.
1.03 SUBMITTALS
A. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's specifications, load tables, dimension diagrams, anchor details,
installation instructions for products to be used in lightgage framing work, and type and location of fasteners.
Describe materials and finish, product criteria, and limitations.
B. Structural Calculations: Submit structural calculations for review by Engineer of Record.
1. Description of design criteria.
2. Engineering analysis depicting stress and deflection (stiffness) requirements for each framing
application.
3. Selection of framing components and accessories.
4. Verification of attachments to structure and adjacent framing components.
5. Sealed by a professional engineer registered in the state where the project is located.
6. Engineer shall have a minimum of 5 years experience with projects of similar scope.
C. Shop Drawings: Drawings shall incorporate fabrication and erection details.
D. Recycled Content:
1. Indicate recycled content; indicate percentage of pre-consumer and post-consumer recycled content per
unit of product.
2. Indicate material cost of product less labor included in project.
3. If recycled content product is part of an assembly, indicate the percentage of recycled content product in
the assembly by weight.
E. Local/Regional Materials:
1. Sourcing location(s): Indicate location of extraction, harvesting, and recovery; indicate distance
between extraction, harvesting, and recovery and the project site.
2. Manufacturing location(s): Indicate location of manufacturing facility; indicate distance between
manufacturing facility and the project site.
3. Product Value: Indicate dollar value of product containing local/regional materials; include materials
cost only.
