Contributors Athanasios Athanasenas is an Assistant Professor of Operations Research & Economic Development in the School of Administration & Economics, Institute of Technology and Education, Serres, Greece. He was educated in Colorado and Virginia Universities and received his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. He was a Full-Bright scholar. Olav Bjerkholt, Professor in Economics, University of Oslo, was previously the Head of the Research at the Norwegian Statistical Office and an Assistant Professor of Energy Economics at the University of Oslo. He has obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Oslo. He was a Visiting Professor in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and was a consultant to the United Nations and the IMF. Christophe Deissenberg is a Professor in Economics, at Université dela Méditerranée and GREQAM, France. He is a co-editor of the Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications and of Macroeconomic Dynamics, a member of the editorial board of Computational Economics and of Computational Management Science. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Society for Computational Economics and a member of the Management Committee of the ESF action COSTP10–Physics of Risk, and a team leader of the European STREP project EURACE. Andrew Hughes Hallett is a Professor of Economics and Public Policy in the School of Public Policy at George Mason University, USA. Previously he was a Professor of Economics at Vanderbilt University, and the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland. He was educated in the University of Warwick and London School of Economics, holds a doctorate from Oxford University. He was a Visiting Professor in Princeton University, Free University of Berlin, Universities of Warwick, Frankfurt, Rome, Paris X and in the Copenhagen Business School. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. xv
xvi Contributors Fabrizio Iacone obtained a Ph.D. in Economics at the London School of Economics and is currently a Lecturer in the Department of Economics at the University of York, UK. He has already published several articles in leading journals. Nikos Konidaris is currently a Ph.D. student at Hellenic Open University, School of Social Sciences, researching in the field of Business Administration. He holds an MA degree in Business and Management and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics & Marketing from Luton University UK. Nikitas Spiros Koutsoukis is anAssistant Professor of Decision Modelling and Scientific Management in the Department of International Economic Relations and Development, Democritus University, Greece. He holds MSc and Ph.D. in decision modeling from Brunel University (UK). He is interested mainly in decision modeling and governance systems, with applications in risk management, business intelligence and operational research based decision support. Alexis Lazaridis, Professor in Econometrics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, has obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Birmingham, England. He was a member of the Administrative Board of the Organization of Mediation and Arbitration, of the Administrative Board of the Centre of International and European Economic Law, and of the Supreme Labour Council of Greece. During his term of service as Head of the Economic Department Faculty of Law and Economics, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, he was conferred an honorary doctoral degree by the President of the Republic of Cyprus. He was also pronounced an honorary member of the Centre of International and Economic European Law by the Secretary-General of the Legal Services of E.U. He has published several books, large number of scientific papers and has patents on two computer software programs. Athanassios Mihiotis is an Assistant Professor at the School of Social Science of the Hellenic Open University. He has obtained his Ph.D. in industrial management from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece. He is the editor of the International Journal of Decision Sciences, Risk and Management. He has in the past worked as Planning and Logistics Director for multinational and domestic companies and has served as member of project teams in the Greek public sector.
