100% wOOL wORSTED SUITINGS
The Intercity 2010 collection provides a variety
of trend lead yet classic cloth designs including
multi-colour pin-stripes in exciting contrast colours.
Choosing a new suit is not an easy task, with cut,
cloth and quality to consider. For menswear, classics
will always withstand the test of time.
London, Paris, Milan and New York are considered to
be the fashion capitals of the world as they have longstanding
histories in both couture and ready to wear
fashions and are home to several highly prestigious
international fashion houses.
The InterCity 2010 suiting collection has been
designed specifically with the business environment
in mind, combining handmade quality with hard
wearing practicality. This is our opening line suit,
traditionally British and taking inspiration from the
nineteen forties and fifties, when consumer taste
demanded that suits be particularly hard wearing and
durable. A city suit comprises of two main elements -
the jacket and trouser, also described as a two piece
suit. The waistcoat is an optional extra and may be
favoured for a particularly smart working environment
or important meeting.
Scotland’s extensive Celtic history of mythical stories and
legends has been passed down through generations.
Having their International Headquarters in the heart of
the Scottish Borders, Holland & Sherry is surrounded
by Scottish heritage, providing the setting for our latest
Legend collection.
These refined fabrics provide exceptional style, comfort,
and maintain beautiful drape. In this issue we present
three suiting qualities; beginning with our legendary
super 140’s clear cut followed by a selection of plains
in our super 140’s flannel and ending with a new super
130’s flannel quality of exclusive contemporary heritage
checks, made in Italy by one of the oldest and finest
mills.
Legend is a truly elegant, innovative collection and is
a fresh interpretation of Holland and Sherry’s great
classics. The cloth offers a very sensual feeling of
softness, suppleness and warmth, elegance and style.
This is a strong, durable and versatile collection which,
like the myths and legends of the Celts, is sure to have
lasting appeal.
hs 1073b legend
super 140’s luxury worsted suitings
Scotland has an extensive Celtic history of mythical
stories and legends which have been passed down
through generations. The Celtic people were not
widely literate, and so passed knowledge and stories
to their friends and families orally. Through time,
these stories have come to be known as legend as
they are believable, but have no historical grounding.
Our super 140’s clear cut quality combines an
elegant range of classic suitings in a distinguished
colour palette, in a variety of twill, birds eye and
diamond weaves. Since medieval times, spinners
and weavers have celebrated their specialised
craft, creating exquisite woven cloths. Inspired by
our Scottish textile heritage, we have created the
‘Legend’ collection. These refined fabrics provide
exceptional style and comfort, whilst maintaining
beautiful drape.
The truly legendary history of cloth production has
evolved through time, but not beyond recognition.
Today’s modern looms produce more complex weave
constructions at greater speed, and modern spinning
frames produce finer counts of yarn. Ultimately
cloth production remains a time consuming craft that
requires skill, care and attention.
Legend is a elegant collection and is a fresh
interpretation of Holland & Sherry’s great classics.
The cloth offers a very sensual feeling of softness,
suppleness and warmth, with lasting appeal.
hs 1074 TARGET 2010
LUXURY SUPER 120’S WORSTED
SUITINGS
Offering incomparable comfort and resilience, Holland
& Sherry’s Target 2010 collection is fashion-focused
and contemporary. This is a super 120’s quality with
a guaranteed micron of 17.5. Glen plaids combine
with fancy herringbone and striped designs to create
directional and versatile suitings for the fashionconscious
man. The cut of a man’s tailored suit
varies greatly according to culture and country. The
variations in design, cut and cloth, such as two-piece
or three-piece, single or double breasted, determine
the social and work suitability of the garment.
hs 1077 VICTORY
SUPER 140’S LUXURY WORSTED SUITINGS
WITH CASHMERE & SILVER MINK
The creation of the Victory collection began by
sourcing the finest raw materials. It is the ultimate
extravagance, incorporating a range of semi-fancy
designs, including plaid, multi-stripes, cable-stripes
and pin-dot fancies in classic grounds of grey, black
and navy.
This quality of Super 140’s Worsted with Cashmere
and Silver Mink takes its name from the HMS Victory
battle ship, and is a traditional yet innovative cloth,
woven in England. It has been a part of our collection
for over 15 years and still remains to this day a quality
exclusive to Holland & Sherry. We began by taking
the finest bale of 16.5 micron wool and painstakingly
combed it until all the short fibres had been removed.
Only when we were left with the long staple fibres
did we blend it with cashmere and silver mink, for
added luxury. Once satisfied that we had achieved
the ultimate blend; the spinning process began. We
decided to spin this new and exclusive blend to a 60/2
new metric yarn count to produce a winter weight
alternative to our Victory clear cut summer cloth.
We then wove it into what remains to be one of the
finest cloths available today. The final stage in the
creation of our Victory cloth is the finishing process.
We apply a traditional English merchant finish that
is recognised the world over, giving the cloths surface a
smooth appearance and high lustre.
hs 1085 highland glen
traditional worsted country suitings
Holland & Sherry’s international headquarters in
Scotland nestles between the rolling hills and winding
rivers of the Scottish Borders. Although it is sparsely
populated, Scotland offers an amazing range of scenery,
from the gentle rolling hills in the lowlands to the
breathtaking peaks of the highlands, and from the rugged
coastlines of the north east to the sub-tropical gardens of
the western isles.
Highland Glen is a traditional country suiting, woven
from 100% worsted wool. A myriad of colour has been
achieved through twisting yarns of complimentary colours
together to produce blends of opulence, complexity and
depth. The palette resembles the dramatic Scottish
landscape, including shades of purple heather mixes
from the moorland, granite grey from the mountain
slopes, and green from the lichen on the majestic fir
trees.
Scotland’s colourful and compelling history features
tragic yet romantic heroes and innovators. Such a
history has left its mark on the landscape as well as
the nation’s psyche, and has ultimately contributed to
the fierce pride of its people.
luxury wool with cashmere jacketings
This luxury collection of wool and cashmere blends
includes various qualities that combine comfort and
softness beyond compare. Produced by our original
suppliers and one of the oldest and finest mills in
Italy, it is the peak of perfection for winter jacketings.
In addition, the prestigious designs emphasize
the unique character of this cloth. The super fine
merino wool is blended with hand combed cashmere,
contributing to the unparalleled softness, lightness
and warmth of the cloth. The finest fibres are
gathered from the saddle of the Cashmere goat and
are harvested by carefully combing the goat’s fleece
during the spring months.
With luxurious handle and beautiful drape the
SherryKash collection enjoys timeless appeal,
enhanced by a self assured colour palate. Combining
warm harmonies of oatmeal and olive with bold
highlights of cerise and lavender, the collection gives
scope for unlimited colour co-ordination.
hs 1092 E-CASHMERE
100% Cashmere
Cashmere is a sustainable, natural fibre, the
production of which involves far lower carbon
emissions than man-made fibres.
Holland & Sherry’s eCashmere collection combines
classic designs of gun club, herringbone and
windowpane with a fresh and contemporary colour
palette.
The top-hair of the cashmere goat is long and rough
but hides a soft, warm and highly valued undercoat
with a luxurious silky handle. The soft undercoat hair
is carefully combed rather than shorn in the spring.
Pure eCashmere is particularly exclusive due to
the laborious production process and limited supply
of yarn, as no more than 100 grams is obtained
per animal each year. The low bulk, high loft fibres
combine to make the warmest, softest and finest
cloth with beautiful drape and timeless appeal. By
purchasing only the most superior quality fibre,
Holland & Sherry strives to produce the finest
cashmere cloth in the world.
hs 1094 ESCORIAL®
LUXURY WORSTED SUITINGS
Escorial® is a fibre rich in history and geography,
travelling the globe from North Africa’s highest
mountains to the El Escorial palace in Spain, before
reaching Australia and New Zealand centuries later.
The delicate, time consuming processes, from
harvesting the fleece to the finished fabric, as well
as its unique heritage, makes Escorial® the most
exceptional and purest fibre in the world.
A single Escorial® fibre has a three dimensional
helical crimp which resembles a small, fine spring,
resulting in a finished cloth which is light and naturally
elastic. The fleeces are prized for their fineness and
softness and the flock has come to be known as the
Royal Escorial Flock. Today Escorial® is the world’s
finest naturally grown fibre, so rare that there are only
three remaining flocks in the world purely descendent
from the original royal Escorial flock, one in New
Zealand and two in Australia.
HS 1095 DAKOTA PLAINS
WHIPCORDS, CAVALRY TWILLS, BEDFORD CORDS
Holland & Sherry’s Dakota collection combines a
classic colour palette of tan, charcoal and moss
green with luxury worsted wool in varying weights
and weaves. We introduce the bunch with a series
of Whipcords followed by Cavalry twills and Bedford
cords. All cloths illustrated are suitable for City or
Country wear and are ideal for suits, trousers, riding
breeches and overcoats.
A Whipcord; has more threads to the inch in the
warp than it does in the weft and when woven, the
weave structure accentuates the warp producing a
steep bold twill line. When combined with hard twisted
yarns, whipcords traditionally lend themselves to
pursuits associated with the outdoors.
A Cavalry Twill; cloth produced from this was
originally worn by the cavalry; it was essential that
mounted soldiers wore durable, protective clothing.
A cavalry twill cloth is produced in a similar way to
the whipcord, the only difference being the weave
construction. A Cavalry twill can be identified by a
steep double twill formation with pronounced weft
grooves between each twill line.
A Bedford Cord; is named after the town of Bedford
in England. Cloths constructed in this way can be
identified by the rounded ribs that run in the warp
direction with a pronounced sunken line between
each rib.
