1. Jesus was innocent, but was considered a sinner—death
of reputation
2. vs 32 Jesus shows us we must carry our cross behind
him like Simon of Cyrene
3. vs 34 The wine offered Jesus would have numbed the
pain—overcoming the pride of trying to soften the death
process in our lives when God knows what we need.
4. vs 35 Jesus lost all he had (clothes on his back) and died
nude—the public shame and losing everything in front of
others is a death of all pride.
5. vs 37 Jesus had the title “king of the Jews” from God, but
was mocked by this title and it looked void before men—
there was more death of pride and reputation.
6. vs 38 Jesus died with thieves—again he was made to
look a sinner before men—death of pride.
7. vs 40 Jesus sermons were mocked by religious leaders—
death to pride
8. vs 41 Jesus was mocked by religious people and religious
leaders—death to pride
9. Jesus died alone and the death process took six hours on
the cross—death took a long time, much longer than I am
sure Jesus wanted it to.
10. vs 45­46 Jesus felt God had abandoned him—dealing
with pride of feeling God has not been fair and just in
your life. We must deal with this and trust God fully.
11. vs 47­49 The audience considered Elijah to be greater
than Jesus and that Jesus was calling him for help! Jesus
