A JOINT WEEKEND AT BATHURST…
Group at Abercrombie House
Brothers and wives of the two Canberra Circles (331 and 340) visited the regional city of Bathurst over
the weekend 13-15 April. Both Circles have developed a tradition to have a joint weekend away once a
year to develop our friendships and foster our fraternal love. The historic inland city of Bathurst (est
1815) was the choice this year. Under the guidance of Bro Paul Scholtens (340), the program of
activity included such highlights as:
• A tour of the old cathedral of St Michael and St John, followed by Mass
• Dinner with Bishop Michael McKenna on Saturday night and some singing entertainment by
Bro Phil Murray (331)
• Breakfast and tour of Abercrombie House on Sunday, followed by
• Tour of Ben Chifley’s home (Australia’s post war prime minister), St Stanislaus’ Catholic Boys
College and the famed Mt Panorama Car racing circuit
• Mt Piper power station on Monday completed the program.
The party comprised some 35 brothers and wives who travelled to Bathurst by car though the regional
towns of Cowra and Carcoar and home via Oberon and Goulburn. The weather was fantastically
autumn and the company exceptionally fraternal. /Brother George Kazs
