In
Nurses are first in Scotland to graduate in advanced critical care
FIVE NHS Lanarkshire staff are
in line to become the first in
Scotland to complete a new
advanced nursing practice course.
The advanced nurse practitioners
in critical care (ANPC) will be the
first critical care practitioners in
Scotland to graduate with the award
of postgraduate certificate in acute
care at the University of the West
of Scotland.
The quintet was also present
along with NHS Lanarkshire
anaesthetic practitioners and
members of the hospital emergency
care teams from the three acute
sites, at an Anatomy Study Day held
in Glasgow University’s anatomy
department.
Here the group met Dr Quentin
Fogg, lecturer in anatomy and were
accompanied by mentor and
consultant anaesthetist Dr Veronica
Watson.
Martin Carberry, NHS
Lanarkshire’s nurse consultant in
critical care, said: “It’s a fantastic
achievement by the staff members.
“We’re really proud that not only
are we the first board in NHS
Scotland to invest in these innovative
new roles, but they’ll be the first in
Scotland to complete this postgraduate
certificate too.”

courses in moving and
handling.
The moving and handling
advisors provide an advisory and
training service to all employees
of NHS Lanarkshire, for patient
and non-patient handlers.
Training courses are from three
hours to two days in duration
and content depends on the
needs of the staff group.
