These regulations should be read in conjunction with the Institute’s Academic Regulations.
1. Admission and Entry
1.1 General Academic Admission
a) Candidates are required to have gained:
i) the Certificate in Business Administration and Computing (Level 3), or
ii)
iii)
iv)
a substantial proportion of the modules required for the Certificate in Business
Administration and Computing (Level 3), or
an equivalent qualification, or
relevant business experience.
1.2 Special Admission
Domestic applicants aged 20 years or above who have not met the General Admission or entry
requirements for a programme but whose skills, education or work experience indicate that they
have a reasonable chance of success 1 may be eligible for Special Admission. Special admission
will be granted at the discretion of the relevant Head of School/Centre Director or designated
nominee. Such applicants may be required to successfully complete a foundation, bridging or
tertiary introductory programme as a condition of entry into higher level programmes.
1.3 Provisional Entry
Domestic applicants aged under 20 years who have not met the general academic admission and
entry criteria for a programme but who can demonstrate a reasonable chance of success
through other educational attainment and/or work or life experience may be eligible for
provisional entry at the discretion of the relevant Head of School/Centre Director or designated
nominee. Provisional entry places restrictions on re‐enrolment to be lifted if the applicant’s
performance is deemed satisfactory by the relevant Head of School/Centre Director or
designated nominee.
1.4 Selection Criteria
a) Candidates admitted under Special Admission and Provisional Entry will be required to
demonstrate a reasonable likelihood of success in the programme. Such candidates will

be required to demonstrate, in a selection interview, written and oral communication
skills adequate for office work training.
b) Candidates are required to demonstrate keyboarding skills in excess of 30 words per
minute and be able to operate a PC. Candidates who do not demonstrate these skills may
be given entry to the programme on condition they enrol in a block module to provide
these skills before the start of the programme.
c) Where there are more candidates than the number of places available preference will be
given to candidates intending full‐time study.
1.5 English Language Requirements
Candidates who have English as a second language will be required to have an International
English Language Test Score (IELTS) of 5.5, with no individual band score lower than 5.0; or
equivalent.
2. Transfer of Credit
2.1 100% transfer of credit is available for this programme (both formal transfer of credit and
recognition of prior learning).
3. Programme Requirements
3.1 Every candidate for the Certificate in Business Administration and Computing (Level 4)
programme shall to the satisfaction of the Academic Board follow a programme of full‐time
equivalent study for a period of normally not less than one semester.
3.2 Each candidate’s programme of study shall comprise all modules from either Groups A and B, or
Groups A and C, as listed in Section 6 of these regulations, totalling a minimum of 60 credits, of
which a minimum of 40 credits will be at Level 4 or above.
3.3 Every candidate for the Certificate in Business Administration and Computing (Level 4)
programme must also meet any attendance requirements set out in individual module outlines.
4. Completion of the Programme
4.1 Candidates who have suspended their study in this programme for a period of three or more
years, and who wish to resume the programme, may be interviewed to determine whether they
have kept up to date with developments in the business technology industry, and if not, may be
required to repeat elements of the programme at the discretion of the Centre Director.
4.2 A candidate may take up to three years to complete this programme, unless an extension is
granted by special permission of the Centre Director.
5. Award of the Qualification
5.1 Candidates may be awarded the Certificate in Business Administration and Computing (Level 4)
with Distinction if they have achieved 30 Merit credits from any of the modules listed in Section
6 of these regulations (according to criteria set out in the individual module outlines).
5.2 Candidates may be awarded the Certificate in Business Administration and Computing (Level 4) if
they successfully complete the requirements in Section 3 of these regulations.
