These regulations should be read <strong>in</strong> conjunction with the Institute’s Academic Regulations.<br />
1. Admission <strong>and</strong> Entry<br />
1.1 General Academic Admission<br />
a) C<strong>and</strong>idates are required to have ga<strong>in</strong>ed:<br />
i) the <strong>Certificate</strong> <strong>in</strong> Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Adm<strong>in</strong>istration <strong>and</strong> Comput<strong>in</strong>g (Level 3), or<br />
ii)<br />
iii)<br />
iv)<br />
a substantial proportion of the modules required for the <strong>Certificate</strong> <strong>in</strong> Bus<strong>in</strong>ess<br />
Adm<strong>in</strong>istration <strong>and</strong> Comput<strong>in</strong>g (Level 3), or<br />
an equivalent qualification, or<br />
relevant bus<strong>in</strong>ess experience.<br />
1.2 Special Admission<br />
Domestic applicants aged 20 years or above who have not met the General Admission or entry<br />
requirements for a programme but whose skills, education or work experience <strong>in</strong>dicate that they<br />
have a reasonable chance of success 1 may be eligible for Special Admission. Special admission<br />
will be granted at the discretion of the relevant Head of School/Centre Director or designated<br />
nom<strong>in</strong>ee. Such applicants may be required to successfully complete a foundation, bridg<strong>in</strong>g or<br />
tertiary <strong>in</strong>troductory programme as a condition of entry <strong>in</strong>to higher level programmes.<br />
1.3 Provisional Entry<br />
Domestic applicants aged under 20 years who have not met the general academic admission <strong>and</strong><br />
entry criteria for a programme but who can demonstrate a reasonable chance of success<br />
through other educational atta<strong>in</strong>ment <strong>and</strong>/or work or life experience may be eligible for<br />
provisional entry at the discretion of the relevant Head of School/Centre Director or designated<br />
nom<strong>in</strong>ee. Provisional entry places restrictions on re‐enrolment to be lifted if the applicant’s<br />
performance is deemed satisfactory by the relevant Head of School/Centre Director or<br />
designated nom<strong>in</strong>ee.<br />
1.4 Selection Criteria<br />
a) C<strong>and</strong>idates admitted under Special Admission <strong>and</strong> Provisional Entry will be required to<br />
demonstrate a reasonable likelihood of success <strong>in</strong> the programme. Such c<strong>and</strong>idates will<br />

be required to demonstrate, <strong>in</strong> a selection <strong>in</strong>terview, written <strong>and</strong> oral communication<br />
skills adequate for office work tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g.<br />
b) C<strong>and</strong>idates are required to demonstrate keyboard<strong>in</strong>g skills <strong>in</strong> excess of 30 words per<br />
m<strong>in</strong>ute <strong>and</strong> be able to operate a PC. C<strong>and</strong>idates who do not demonstrate these skills may<br />
be given entry to the programme on condition they enrol <strong>in</strong> a block module to provide<br />
these skills before the start of the programme.<br />
c) Where there are more c<strong>and</strong>idates than the number of places available preference will be<br />
given to c<strong>and</strong>idates <strong>in</strong>tend<strong>in</strong>g full‐time study.<br />
1.5 English Language Requirements<br />
C<strong>and</strong>idates who have English as a second language will be required to have an International<br />
English Language Test Score (IELTS) of 5.5, with no <strong>in</strong>dividual b<strong>and</strong> score lower than 5.0; or<br />
equivalent.<br />
2. Transfer of Credit<br />
2.1 100% transfer of credit is available for this programme (both formal transfer of credit <strong>and</strong><br />
recognition of prior learn<strong>in</strong>g).<br />
3. Programme Requirements<br />
3.1 Every c<strong>and</strong>idate for the <strong>Certificate</strong> <strong>in</strong> Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Adm<strong>in</strong>istration <strong>and</strong> Comput<strong>in</strong>g (Level 4)<br />
programme shall to the satisfaction of the Academic Board follow a programme of full‐time<br />
equivalent study for a period of normally not less than one semester.<br />
3.2 Each c<strong>and</strong>idate’s programme of study shall comprise all modules from either Groups A <strong>and</strong> B, or<br />
Groups A <strong>and</strong> C, as listed <strong>in</strong> Section 6 of these regulations, totall<strong>in</strong>g a m<strong>in</strong>imum of 60 credits, of<br />
which a m<strong>in</strong>imum of 40 credits will be at Level 4 or above.<br />
3.3 Every c<strong>and</strong>idate for the <strong>Certificate</strong> <strong>in</strong> Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Adm<strong>in</strong>istration <strong>and</strong> Comput<strong>in</strong>g (Level 4)<br />
programme must also meet any attendance requirements set out <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>dividual module outl<strong>in</strong>es.<br />
4. Completion of the Programme<br />
4.1 C<strong>and</strong>idates who have suspended their study <strong>in</strong> this programme for a period of three or more<br />
years, <strong>and</strong> who wish to resume the programme, may be <strong>in</strong>terviewed to determ<strong>in</strong>e whether they<br />
have kept up to date with developments <strong>in</strong> the bus<strong>in</strong>ess technology <strong>in</strong>dustry, <strong>and</strong> if not, may be<br />
required to repeat elements of the programme at the discretion of the Centre Director.<br />
4.2 A c<strong>and</strong>idate may take up to three years to complete this programme, unless an extension is<br />
granted by special permission of the Centre Director.<br />
5. Award of the Qualification<br />
5.1 C<strong>and</strong>idates may be awarded the <strong>Certificate</strong> <strong>in</strong> Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Adm<strong>in</strong>istration <strong>and</strong> Comput<strong>in</strong>g (Level 4)<br />
with Dist<strong>in</strong>ction if they have achieved 30 Merit credits from any of the modules listed <strong>in</strong> Section<br />
6 of these regulations (accord<strong>in</strong>g to criteria set out <strong>in</strong> the <strong>in</strong>dividual module outl<strong>in</strong>es).<br />
5.2 C<strong>and</strong>idates may be awarded the <strong>Certificate</strong> <strong>in</strong> Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Adm<strong>in</strong>istration <strong>and</strong> Comput<strong>in</strong>g (Level 4) if<br />
they successfully complete the requirements <strong>in</strong> Section 3 of these regulations.<br />
