These regulations should be read <strong>in</strong> conjunction with the Institute’s Academic Regulations, Clause 2<br />
General Programme Regulations and the relevant NZQA qualification requirements.<br />
1. Admission and Entry<br />
1.1. Candidates are required to have a m<strong>in</strong>imum of 24 credits at NCEA <strong>Level</strong> 2, 12 of which<br />
must be <strong>in</strong> English, and 12 from one other subject; or<br />
1.2. Have completed the W<strong>in</strong>tec <strong>Certificate</strong> <strong>in</strong> Introduction to Study <strong>Level</strong> 2.<br />
1.3. Candidates who do not meet the above entry requirements may nevertheless be<br />
considered for provisional entry (if aged under 20 years) or special admission (if aged 20<br />
or over). In such cases entry will be dependent on whether candidates demonstrate a<br />
reasonable likelihood of success <strong>in</strong> the programme.<br />
1.4. Candidates who have English as a second language are required to have an International<br />
English Language Test System (IELTS) score of 5.5, with no <strong>in</strong>dividual band score lower<br />
than 5.0; or equivalent.<br />
1.5. Candidates may be required to attend an <strong>in</strong>terview as part of the enrolment process; and<br />
1.6 May be required to complete a Study Skills Assessment to demonstrate that they have<br />
the necessary level of academic skill to successfully complete this programme.<br />
2. Transfer of Credit<br />
Up to 100% transfer of credit is available for this programme (both formal transfer of credit<br />
and recognition of prior learn<strong>in</strong>g)<br />
3. Programme Requirements<br />
3.1. Every candidate for the <strong>Certificate</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Animal</strong> <strong>Care</strong> (<strong>Level</strong> 4) shall to the satisfaction of the<br />
Academic Board follow a programme of study for a period of normally not less than 16<br />
weeks full-time study, or the equivalent <strong>in</strong> part-time study.<br />
3.2. Every candidate is required to complete all modules listed <strong>in</strong> Section 7 of these<br />
regulations totall<strong>in</strong>g 60 credits.<br />
4. Completion of the Programme<br />
A candidate may take up to two years to complete this programme unless an extension is<br />
granted by special permission of the Head of School/Centre Director.<br />
5. Assessment<br />
This programme uses mixed mode assessment, therefore aegrotat consideration will be<br />
available only for the achievement based components of the modules.<br />

6. Award of the Qualification<br />
Candidates who successfully complete the requirements <strong>in</strong> sections 3.1 and 3.2 will receive<br />
the award of the <strong>Certificate</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Animal</strong> <strong>Care</strong> (<strong>Level</strong> 4).<br />
