OVERVIEW
If you are working with adults in a
teaching or facilitating role, this is
the course for you. It emphasises the
importance of planning, preparation
and variety in teaching, encourages
personal reflection, and is both
challenging and enjoyable.
Upon successful completion of the
Introduction to Adult Learning module
you will be awarded the Certificate in
Adult Teaching qualification, and will also
achieve Unit Standard 7102 and
Unit Standard 7097.

• Describing and applying key principles
of the theories of adult learning
• Establishing and maintaining a
classroom environment
• Recognising barriers to communication
• Demonstrating effective
questioning skills
• Identifying criteria for learning outcomes
• Identifying, describing and
demonstrating teaching strategies that
promote student-centred learning
• Demonstrating an awareness of learning
styles and developing strategies for
coping with diverse needs
• Identifying strategies in the classroom
relating to partnerships in the
Treaty of Waitangi
• Preparing and effectively using a
variety of visual aids and resources to
assist learning
ENTRY CRITERIA - SUMMARY
This is an open entry programme,
however applicants must demonstrate
effective reading, writing and oral skills.
Your work experience and previous
learning may count as credits towards
this programme.

(LEVEL 5) ES0401b
DURATION: Starts at various times
throughout the year for varying

STUDY: Part-time
LOCATION: Hamilton City Campus and
Otorohanga and Thames Regional Hubs.
OVERVIEW
If you’re involved in adult education and
training in the public or private sector,
this programme will teach you how to
apply the latest theories and practices
related to adult teaching and learning to
your classrooms.
It consists of four compulsory modules,
including Introduction to Adult Learning,
and three elective modules. There are
45 credits in total and all modules have
both a theoretical and practical focus.
WHAT’S INVOLVED
Your tutor on this programme is an
academic leader in their field and an
expert in the module content and teaching
approach. You will actually be teaching
a group of students, designing courses
and applying what you learn to your own
teaching. Elements of this programme
are on Wintec’s online teaching and
learning system, Moodle, which means
you can study anytime, anywhere there’s
a computer connection.
ENTRY CRITERIA - SUMMARY
Candidates are required to have gained
12 credits in English at NCEA Level 1 or
an equivalent qualification. Candidates
should also be working as adult educators
or have access to an adult learning
environment. Your work experience and
previous learning may count as credits
towards this programme.
