DURATION: Starts March or July for one semester STUDY: Full-time LOCATION: Hamilton City Campus OVERVIEW This programme will help you develop an understanding of what is expected at tertiary level along with the skills, knowledge and confidence you need to succeed in tertiary education. It will also prepare you for the Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood Education). ENTRY CRITERIA - SUMMARY Entry is open to students with communication skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening) at the level required to successfully undertake the programme. BACHELOR OF TEACHING (EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION) (LEVEL 7) EU0901 DURATION: Starts February for three years STUDY: Full-time, part-time study equivalent LOCATION: Hamilton City Campus OVERVIEW This Degree focuses not only on the theoretical knowledge of early childhood teaching, but also hands on practical experience. You’ll spend one day and one evening per week in classes, and a minimum of 12 hours per week in a licensed and chartered early childhood education setting putting the skills you’ve learnt into practice. GRADUATE WITH THE SKILLS YOU NEED You’ll have the support of highly qualified tutors motivated to help you succeed at every stage of the degree programme. Field-based learning includes making resources for teaching practice such as music and movement, dramatic play, literacy, visual arts and Teo Reo Māori. And because much of your learning time is actually spent in early childhood education settings, you can be confident that when you graduate you’ll be work ready with in-demand skills. Elements of the programme are taught on Wintec’s online teaching and learning system, Moodle. RELEVANT PARTNERSHIPS The programme content and how it is taught is directly influenced by the standards set by NZQA and the New Zealand Teachers Council. Wintec also works closely with kindergarten associations and childcare centres to ensure the qualification remains constantly relevant. ENTRY CRITERIA - SUMMARY Entry into this programme requires 60 credits at NCEA level 2 across four subjects including a language rich subject and a minimum of 14 credits at level 1 in Mathematics, or equivalent, OR 42 credits at NCEA level 3 including a language rich subject and a minimum of 14 credits at level 3 in each of two subjects and a further 14 credits at level 3 from no more than two additional subjects, or equivalent. Special entry may be granted to candidates aged 20 years or over who do not meet the entry criteria but can demonstrate a reasonable likelihood of success in the programme.
