OVERVIEW<br />

If you are a passionate, energetic<br />

person who wants to work with people<br />

designing, delivering and managing<br />

outdoor adventure and recreation<br />

experiences, then this programme is for<br />

you. It introduces you to a broad range<br />

of outdoor recreation experiences,<br />

encouraging a high degree of motivation,<br />

personal determination and teamwork<br />

whatever your age and ability.<br />

HERE’S WHAT YOU’LL STUDY<br />

• Adventure Environments<br />

• Concepts of Strength Training<br />

• Adventure in the Outdoors<br />

• Recreation in the Community<br />

• Recreation Leadership<br />

• Injury Prevention and Management<br />

• Rock Climbing and Caving<br />

• Water and Bush Pursuits<br />

H<strong>AND</strong>S-ON IS THE ONLY WAY<br />

You’ll go outdoor rock climbing, caving,<br />

bush tramping and kayaking and from<br />

these experiences you’ll learn how to put<br />

activities together to create adventure<br />

programmes. You’ll also learn adventure<br />

leadership for a variety of participants<br />

from school children to adults.<br />

For example, upon completion of this<br />

course it’s you who’ll have the know-how<br />

and practical skills to run a Top Town<br />

programme at a primary school. Please<br />

note, you will be required to attend<br />

practical sessions that run over weekends.<br />

WE WORK WITH THE <strong>IN</strong>DUSTRY<br />

<strong>Wintec</strong> is closely linked and consults<br />

frequently with providers in the outdoor<br />

adventure industry to ensure course<br />

content is current and relevant. Guest<br />

Speakers will join your qualified tutors<br />

throughout the year to share their<br />

in-depth knowledge of particular fields.<br />

ON-SITE GYM<br />

You’ll have full access to <strong>Wintec</strong>’s modern<br />

gymnasium for training programmes and<br />

building up your personal fitness.<br />

WHAT A STUDY ENVIRONMENT!<br />

You’ll do the theory in class but as you’re<br />

learning about outdoor adventure and<br />

recreation, there’s only one place for it;<br />

the great outdoors! You will go caving and<br />

rock climbing at Waitomo Caves, kayaking<br />

in the many rivers in the region and hiking<br />

in the spectacular ranges surrounding<br />

Hamilton. The Waikato offers a huge<br />

variety of recreational activities right on<br />

our doorstep.<br />

ENTRY CRITERIA - SUMMARY<br />

To enter this programme you need<br />

36 credits at NCEA Level 2 across 3 subjects<br />

including 12 credits in English Level 2, or<br />

equivalent. There are also specific literacy<br />

and mathematics requirements.<br />

<strong>IN</strong>DUSTRY TRA<strong>IN</strong><strong>IN</strong>G<br />

(LEVEL 4) SP1001<br />

DURATION: Starts February for one year<br />

STUDY: Full-time<br />

OVERVIEW<br />

Whatever your age and ability, if you<br />

are a passionate, energetic person who<br />

wants to work in the health and fitness<br />

industry, work with individuals or sports<br />

teams, or just train more effectively<br />

for your own personal goals, then this<br />

one-year programme is for you. This<br />

qualification enables graduates to apply<br />

for registration as an Exercise Consultant<br />

with the New Zealand Register of Exercise<br />

Professionals (REPs).<br />
