These regulations should be read <strong>in</strong> conjunction with <strong>the</strong> Institute’s Academic Regulations.<br />
1. General Academic Admission<br />
a) Candidates are expected to have completed three years of secondary education and to<br />
have ga<strong>in</strong>ed<br />
i) a m<strong>in</strong>imum of 16 credits at NCEA <strong>Level</strong> 1, 8 of which must be English and 8 credits<br />
must be <strong>in</strong> Ma<strong>the</strong>matics, or equivalent; or<br />
ii)<br />
a qualification at <strong>Level</strong> 2 or higher <strong>in</strong> a related subject area<br />
1.1 Special Admission<br />
Domestic applicants aged 20 years or above who have not met <strong>the</strong> General Admission or entry<br />
requirements for a programme but whose skills, education or work experience <strong>in</strong>dicate that <strong>the</strong>y<br />
have a reasonable chance of success 1 may be eligible for Special Admission. Special admission<br />
will be granted at <strong>the</strong> discretion of <strong>the</strong> relevant Head of School/Centre Director or designated<br />
nom<strong>in</strong>ee. Such applicants may be required to successfully complete a foundation, bridg<strong>in</strong>g or<br />
tertiary <strong>in</strong>troductory programme as a condition of entry <strong>in</strong>to higher level programmes.<br />
1.2 Provisional Entry<br />
Domestic applicants aged under 20 years who have not met <strong>the</strong> general academic admission and<br />
entry criteria for a programme but who can demonstrate a reasonable chance of success<br />
through o<strong>the</strong>r educational atta<strong>in</strong>ment and/or work or life experience may be eligible for<br />
provisional entry at <strong>the</strong> discretion of <strong>the</strong> relevant Head of School/Centre Director or designated<br />
nom<strong>in</strong>ee. Provisional entry places restrictions on re-enrolment to be lifted if <strong>the</strong> applicant’s<br />
performance is deemed satisfactory by <strong>the</strong> relevant Head of School/Centre Director or<br />
designated nom<strong>in</strong>ee.<br />
1.3 Selection Criteria<br />
a) Candidates must demonstrate a reasonable likelihood of success. They may be required<br />
to complete a selection process which will <strong>in</strong>clude an <strong>in</strong>terview and may <strong>in</strong>clude a Study<br />
Skills assessment.<br />
b) To meet legal and health requirements, candidates must by physically able to carry out<br />
<strong>the</strong> practical components of <strong>the</strong> programmes.<br />

1.4 English Language Requirements<br />
Candidates who have English as a second language are required to have an International English<br />
Language Test System (IELTS) score of 5.5, with no <strong>in</strong>dividual band score lower than 5.0; or<br />
equivalent.<br />
2. Transfer of Credit<br />
2.1 100% transfer of credit is available for this programme (both formal transfer of credit and<br />
recognition of prior learn<strong>in</strong>g).<br />
3. Programme Requirements<br />
3.1 Every candidate for <strong>the</strong> <strong>Certificate</strong> <strong>in</strong> Hairdress<strong>in</strong>g (<strong>Level</strong> 3) programme shall to <strong>the</strong> satisfaction<br />
of <strong>the</strong> Academic Board follow a programme of study for a period of normally not less than two<br />
semesters.<br />
3.2 Each candidate for <strong>the</strong> <strong>Certificate</strong> <strong>in</strong> Hairdress<strong>in</strong>g (<strong>Level</strong> 3) must successfully complete all <strong>the</strong><br />
modules listed <strong>in</strong> Section 6 totall<strong>in</strong>g a m<strong>in</strong>imum of 120 credits.<br />
4. Completion of <strong>the</strong> Programme<br />
4.1 A candidate may take up to 2 years to complete this programme, but an extension may be<br />
granted by special permission of <strong>the</strong> Head of School/Centre Director.<br />
5. Award of <strong>the</strong> Qualification<br />
5.1 The <strong>Certificate</strong> <strong>in</strong> Hairdress<strong>in</strong>g (<strong>Level</strong> 3) will be awarded to a candidate who has successfully<br />
completed <strong>the</strong> programme requirements as specified <strong>in</strong> clauses 3.1and 3.2 of <strong>the</strong>se regulations.<br />
5.2 Candidates successfully complet<strong>in</strong>g all modules <strong>in</strong> Section 6: Group A and a m<strong>in</strong>imum of 20<br />
credits from Group B, with at least 10 credits at level 3, will be eligible for <strong>the</strong> award of <strong>the</strong><br />
National <strong>Certificate</strong> <strong>in</strong> Hairdress<strong>in</strong>g (Salon Support) (<strong>Level</strong> 3)<br />
6. Schedule of Modules<br />
Note: no value <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> pre/co-requisite columns means <strong>the</strong>re are no pre/co-requisites for that module.<br />
