These regulations should be read <strong>in</strong> conjunction with the Institute’s Academic Regulations, Clause 2<br />

General Programme Regulations.<br />

1. Admission and Entry<br />

1.1 Subject to the requirements specified <strong>in</strong> clauses 1.2 and 1.5 of these regulations, there is<br />

open entry to this programme although students must demonstrate a reasonable<br />

likelihood of success. It is recommended that candidates have a m<strong>in</strong>imum of 8 credits at<br />

NCEA level 1 or above <strong>in</strong> English and Mathematics or equivalent knowledge.<br />

1.2 Candidates may be required to complete an <strong>in</strong>terview and selection process. This may<br />

<strong>in</strong>clude the requirement to complete a Study Skills Assessment to demonstrate the level<br />

of academic skill necessary to successfully complete this programme.<br />

1.3 Candidates who do not meet the entry requirements may nevertheless be considered for<br />

provisional entry (if aged under 20) or special admission (if aged 20 or over). In such<br />

cases entry will be dependent on whether candidates are able to demonstrate a<br />

reasonable likelihood of success <strong>in</strong> the programme.<br />

1.4 Candidates who have English as a second language are required to have an<br />

International English Language Test System (IELTS) score of 5.5, with no <strong>in</strong>dividual<br />

band lower than 5.0; or equivalent.<br />

1.5 To meet legal and health requirements, candidates must be physically able to carry out<br />

the practical components of the programmes.<br />

2. Transfer of Credit<br />

Formal and <strong>in</strong>formal transfer of credit is available for this programme.<br />

3. Programme Requirements<br />

Each candidate shall to the satisfaction of the Academic Board follow a programme of study<br />

of normally not less than one year full time or the equivalent <strong>in</strong> part-time study.<br />

3.1 Each candidate’s programme of study shall comprise compulsory modules as specified <strong>in</strong><br />

Section 7 of these regulations and totall<strong>in</strong>g 120 credits.<br />

3.2 Candidates are expected to attend a m<strong>in</strong>imum of 80% of the total teach<strong>in</strong>g hours <strong>in</strong> each<br />

module of the programme.<br />

4. Completion of the Programme<br />

Candidates may take up to two years to complete this programme but an extension may be<br />

granted by special permission of the Head of School/Centre Director .<br />

5. Assessment<br />

This programme uses competency based assessment methods therefore aegrotat<br />

consideration is not available.<br />

6. Award of the Qualification<br />

Candidates who successfully complete the requirements <strong>in</strong> sections 3.1 and 3.2 will receive<br />

the award of the <strong>Certificate</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>Arboriculture</strong> (<strong>Level</strong> 3) and will be able to apply to the New<br />

Zealand Qualifications Authority for the award of the National <strong>Certificate</strong> <strong>in</strong> Horticulture<br />

(<strong>Arboriculture</strong>) (<strong>Level</strong> 3)<br />
