PRIVACY ACT 1993<br />
Personal <strong>in</strong>formation collected, held and exchanged by W<strong>in</strong>tec is required <strong>to</strong> enable it <strong>to</strong> comply with the Education Act 1989 and its role as an educational<br />
provider. The collection, use, s<strong>to</strong>rage, exchange and update of personal <strong>in</strong>formation will be <strong>in</strong> accordance with the Privacy Act 1993.<br />
Key po<strong>in</strong>ts <strong>in</strong>clude:<br />
i) Students have the right <strong>to</strong> access and correct any <strong>in</strong>formation held about them.<br />
ii) With<strong>in</strong> W<strong>in</strong>tec, relevant personal <strong>in</strong>formation will be available <strong>to</strong> staff responsible for enrolment, for establish<strong>in</strong>g and ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g records, provid<strong>in</strong>g tuition,<br />
programmes and academic support, provid<strong>in</strong>g student services (<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g Students’ Association), loans and allowances support, and for ma<strong>in</strong>ta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g discipl<strong>in</strong>e<br />

iii) W<strong>in</strong>tec is also required collect and s<strong>to</strong>re <strong>in</strong>formation from this form <strong>to</strong> comply with the requirements of the M<strong>in</strong>istry of Education (student statistical returns),<br />
New Zealand Qualifications Authority (Record of Learn<strong>in</strong>g registration and Unit Standard outcomes), M<strong>in</strong>istry of Social Development (conformation of enrolment<br />
and acedemic outcomes), Inland Revenue Department (student loan <strong>in</strong>terest rebate), Department of Immigration (if you are not a New Zealand citizen or<br />
permanent resident) and other educational organisations and agencies support<strong>in</strong>g students through scholarships and awards. In addition, when required by<br />
statute, W<strong>in</strong>tec releases <strong>in</strong>formation <strong>to</strong> Government agencies such as the New Zealand Police, Department of Justice, M<strong>in</strong>istry of Social Development, and the<br />
Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC).<br />
iv) W<strong>in</strong>tec and StudyL<strong>in</strong>k (formally Work and Income New Zealand, WINZ, Student Services) may exchange enrolment status and relevant support<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>formation<br />
<strong>to</strong> support student loan or allowance applications.<br />
