courses in backpacking, hiking, c<strong>on</strong>servati<strong>on</strong>,<br />

scrambling, climbing, first aid, snowshoeing,<br />

skiing, <strong>sea</strong> kayaking, sailing, bicycling, singles<br />

events, wilderness navigati<strong>on</strong>, avalanche<br />

awareness, folk dancing, photography and<br />

family activities.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Foothills Branch joined a number <strong>of</strong> other <strong>Mountaineers</strong> branches in hosting a trail work party <strong>on</strong> Nati<strong>on</strong>al<br />

Trails Day, June 4. Above, they d<strong>on</strong> their <strong>Mountaineers</strong> identity after a day <strong>of</strong> reparing the Ira Spring Trail. See<br />

page 15 for more about trail work, including where you can turn your dedicati<strong>on</strong> to trails into a vacati<strong>on</strong>.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Tacoma Branch has been talking to members and strategizing <strong>on</strong> expansi<strong>on</strong> <strong>of</strong> its learning center and meeting<br />

hub in Old Town (artist’s rendering <strong>of</strong> the corner building above). An applicati<strong>on</strong> for a grant to fund the project has<br />

been submitted and more fundraising meetings will resume in July. Watch for an article in the September/October<br />

issue <strong>of</strong> the Mountaineer magazine or visit the Tacoma Branch website currently for more informati<strong>on</strong>.<br />

discover what’s after “happily ever after.”<br />
