While teams donned all pink, blue became the dominant color as the 10U Hurricanes Blue swept the tournament with a 3-0 record; outscoring their opponents 19-1. Great pitching and stellar defense propelled the Canes to their first tournament win as a unit, a theme they hope to continue for the remainder of the 2013-14 season. In Game One, Skyler LaFisca and Johnna Filliponi each went three innings to combine on a no-hitter in a 3-0 win over the Jersey Bandits. Offensively, Avery Kontura, Lizzie Kelly, Johnna Filliponi, Becca Bocock and Ayanna Stetzick each had a hit a piece. Carley Lederman drew a bases loaded walk to bring in the Canes first run of the season. In Game Two, Ayanna Stetzick and Becca Bocock combined on a two-hitter in a 7-0 win over the Howell Heat. The bottom half of the lineup drew four bases loaded walks in the first inning, highlighted two great at-bats by Martina Fedor and Cierra Acevedo. Kelsey Smith remained solid at catcher, receiving all 11 innings in the first two games. In the championship game, Hamilton took a 9-1 win over the formidable South Jersey Gators. LaFisca and Filliponi combined on a one-hitter and the Canes defense stiffened up even more.

The 12U White Hurricanes weren't worried about winning as much as raising money as they were all smiles after competing
in the Playing for Pink Tournament at HGSA Saturday.
12U Whites go out to play for good cause despite just three practices
Julie Woodworth spent her birthday on Saturday playing softball. And that was her choice.
Julia is one of 12 "sisters" on the HGSA 12U White Hurricane All-Star team.
This year's group is made up of Hurricane veterans and rookies alike.
Today they came together for their first tournament after only three practices. Their level of skill did
not matter, the team strategy did not matter, and the final scores did not matter. The main reason for
going out on the field was to play in the HGSA Playing for Pink tournament, and as a team generated
$1600 in donations for the Susan B. Komen Foundation. By choice, they spent a beautiful fall
Saturday working hard together for a very worthy cause.

Manager Fran Mozgai summed up the team's first tournament experience, by saying “I told the girls
something before we left. I told them they are different because they are part of this team. I asked
them to think about how many kids their age are not willing to wake up at six on a cold Saturday
morning and work hard for six or seven hours.
“These girls are willing to put the work in to get better and compete. Because of this they
are already winners."
