İstanbul has 49 universities, 9 of<br />

which are public and 40 are private,<br />

mostly owned by foundations.<br />

Tens of thousands of papers<br />

are published each year and respectable<br />

research has been carried<br />

out in the universities.<br />

With a population of 14.1 million, the<br />

young generation ratio in İstanbul<br />

between the ages 15-39 is nearly 55<br />

percent. With this statistics the city<br />

has many alternatives depending<br />

on the young people’s preferences<br />

in terms of education. İstanbul has<br />

joined to the Erasmus Student Exchange<br />

programme in 2003 and in<br />

2013 nearly 40 thousand students<br />

and academicians from European<br />

countries chose İstanbul to study.<br />

area İstanbul University – the oldest<br />

university in İstanbul – is founded<br />

in 1453 and has studies from engineering<br />

to medicine. With students<br />

up to 88 thousand İstanbul University<br />

is among the best 500 universities<br />

around the world since 2006.<br />

Founded in 1979 Galatasaray University<br />

is a highly prestigious place<br />

with providing education in French.<br />

Only nearly 500 students are accepted<br />

every year. Social and politics<br />

studies are widely respected in<br />

Galatasaray University.<br />

Educating only in English, Boğaziçi<br />

University is founded in 1971 and is<br />

one of the highest reputable universities<br />

in the country. Also İstanbul<br />

and Yıldız Technical Universities<br />

provide quality engineering and<br />

science studies while Mimar Sinan<br />

University gives arts, graphic and<br />

architecture educations.<br />

Marmara University that has campuses<br />

in both sides of İstanbul is a<br />

major academy place that provides<br />

education in many of the all branches<br />

and publishes major studies.<br />

Yeditepe University, Işık<br />

University, Aydin University,<br />
