jams. Every day it removes almost
100km of vehicle convoys from traffic,
with Park and Go car parks providing
service from 35 heavy-traffic points
with 10,000 vehicle capacity throughout
the city. Located at points close to
bus stops, stations and ports, almost
2.3 million people benefit from Park
and Go annually.
Electrical vehicle charging stations:
Metropolitan Municipality have also installed
electrical vehicle charging stations
at its open and multistorey car
parks. Ready for service at 12 points,
charging stations are to be found
around the city.
İstanbul reclaims its environment:
İstanbul Landscape & Parks Department
carries out production, maintenance,
construction and sale activities
and is also involved in R&D activities re
trees and landscaping. Projects involve
52million m2 of land across İstanbul.
İstanbul enjoys its green spaces: 147
crossroads, 312 parks and coastline
parks 803 acres in total were planted
2005-2014 thanks to the activities of
İstanbul Landscape & Parks Department.
1,981,885 trees were planted
throughout İstanbul and 334,392,358
seasonal flower were grown. 5.5 million
m2 of new green areas were
created. İstanbul Landscape & Parks
Department carried out irrigation activities
on 41,755,198 m2 land in total. In
2014, 3,254,380m2 of rollout lawn was
planted across İstanbul and projects
were applied on 765,000 m2 land.

470,000 m2 using 400 suppliers and
planting 1.6 million roses, 5 million tulips,
61 million seasonal flowers with a
450,000 m3 soil mixture being produced
annually.
The Hotel Greening Project
Bureau Veritas and the Turkish Hotels
and Investors Association (TUROB)
came together to give a green light to
The Hotel Greening Project in order to
move the environmental agenda forward
with İstanbul’s hotels by encouraging
them to implement environmentally
friendly strategies. The pilot project
came to life during the 5th World Water
Forum’s ‘Green Forum Initiative’ to raise
awareness on hotel greening techniques
and also to encourage participating hotels
to take the first step toward greener
accommodation. 26 hotels volunteering
to participate in the Hotel Greening
Project were audited according to measurements
of energy efficiency, water
conservation and waste management
practices, among other criteria. Hotels
attaining a minimum standard received
a certificate from Bureau Veritas and
