CURRENCY
The Turkish Lira is the official currency
of Turkey. The currency comes in with
banknotes of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and
200 TL. Also, the coins that you will
get in Turkey are 1, 5, 10, 25 Kuruş and
1 TL. You can find foreign exchance
bureaus especially in the airports and
city centre. You can also withdraw
TL from ATMs all around the country.
Each ATM has foreign language
sections and pays out with TL’s. But
there may be limits for each day on
the amount of withdrawal though.
Visas
To enter into Turkey visas are required
but most of the visas can be purchased
for £10 or $20 at Turkey’s airports or
border gates. Since the information
of visas is changeable, please contact
the visa information for foreigners on
Turkish Foreign Ministry website.

E-Visa
The Electronic Visa Application
System replaces the sticker and
stamp type visas formerly issued at
the border crossing.
Applicants can obtain their visa
electronically after entering required
information and making payment by
credit card.

POST COMMUNICATION
In Turkey, Postal Services are generally
abbreviated to PTT in which you can
send your cargoes, letters, faxes;
make phone calls worldwide etc. The
working hours of PTT are between
08:30 am and 5:00 pm. In order to
find the closest post office to you,
please visit: www.ptt.gov.tr.
Please mind that Istanbul’s telephone
service has two area codes: 0216 for
the Anatolian, 0212 for the European
side. Besides, Turkey’s country code is
+90.
TIME ZONE
Istanbul falls in the Eastern European
Time Zone. Eastern European
Standard Time (EET) is 2 hours ahead
of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT+2).
VOLTAGE
Turkey’s electrical system operates
on 220 volts, 50 Hz, with roundprong
European-style plugs that
fit into recessed wall sockets.
A voltage converter and a plug
adapter are required in order to use
U.S. appliances. It is recommended
to have a universal adapter and a
converter kit during every visit you
make abroad.
OFFICIAL HOLIDAYS
There are two types of special days
and thus holidays in Turkey: Religious
and National. Religious holidays,
eids are the Ramadan Bairam and
the Bairam of Sacrifices. In 2015,
Ramadan Bairam will be celebrated
between the 16th and the 19th of
July. And Bairam of Sacrifices will
be between the 23rd and the 27th of
September. In addition to these, the
National holidays of Turkey are the
Republic Day on 29th of October,
National Sovereignty and Children’s
Day on 23rd of April, Youth and
Sports Festival in memory of Ataturk
on 19th of May and Victory Day on
30th of August.
