İstanbul first broke into the world’s
“Top 10 Congress Destinations” in
2010, hosting 109 congresses according
to the International Congress
and Convention Association
(ICCA). İstanbul has solidified its
place in “The World’s Top 10 Congress
Destination”in 2013, hosting
146 congresses, a 18 congress increase
over 2012.
İstanbul also became “World’s Number
1 Congress Destination” with
more than 500 delegates in 2011,
2012 and 2013.
As the city is home to 7 purpose-built
convention centres and 3 exhibition
centres İstanbul has the capacity to
host any type of event – from incentives
to up to 30.000 participants
association meetings.
As a strong verification to its prestigious
ranking İstanbul hosted conferences
in recent years that received
praise from all sides. Some of the main
congresses are; World Dental Congress
FDI, with 15,000, International
Congress of the European Academy of
Dermatology and Venereology EADV
hosting 8100 delegates and European
Renal Association-European Dialysis
and Transplant Association ERA-ED-
TA hosting again 8000 delegates got
compliments within the international
community. Again, Conference of the
European Association for International
Education (EAIE) with 4000, 7th
World Congress on Pediatric Critical
Care with 2000, EFNS-ENS Joint
Congress of Neurology with 5000,
9th World Stroke Congress WCS with
2500, IFCC WorldLab - 22nd Int. Congress
of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory
Medicine ICCCLM with 6000
guests also can be counted within
the prestigious meetings that İstanbul
hosted.
With almost 94,000 bed capacity and
over 170 five and four star hotels, İstanbul
offers a variety of options, including
top international and domestic
hotel brands, at a variety of price
points. İstanbul offers four separate
but integratable meeting and exhibition
clusters in the Airport District,
the Congress Valley, the Golden Horn
and Asian side, augmented by new
centers being constructed on Asian
Side, and existing centers being updated
and expanded. Combined with
unique incentives afforded by İstanbul’s
historic venues, palaces, cisterns
and more, İstanbul presents meeting
planners with a variety of remarkable
options to create truly outstanding
events. Not all cities in the world are
blessed with a unique venue selection
from the 4th century as well as sanctuaries
from all three major religions.
Another factor in İstanbul’s success
as a congress destination is its easy
access from anywhere in the world.
Turkish Airlines, a member of the
Star Alliance, offers more than 260
direct destination flights between İstanbul
and five continents, meaning
that two billion people live within six
hours’ flying time of İstanbul. With
two airports, one on the Asian side
of the city “Sabiha Gökçen International
Airport” and “Atatürk International
Airport” on the European side.
The 3rd airport under construction,
İstanbul Grand Airport will provide a
capacity of 150 million passengers;
the world’s largest in terms of the
passenger volume expected to be
complete by 2018.
