for our customers is that no changes will be implemented.
We will continue to promote and sell rotor nl®
dealing with Rotor (UK) will open more doors than
ever before.
Many of our customers will be aware of the CMG
which took place on 7th February 2011.
warehouse giving both companies the feel of real
independence, which is effectively the intention.
Rotor (UK) and CMG will operate as two separate
companies following similar processes, but each
working toward their own individual goals.
20 YEARS IN WELLINGBOROUGH
It was on 21st February 1991 when I arrived in Wellingborough to take over the Electric Motor Division of
Exico Limited from my predecessor. At this time Exico Limited was a Czechoslovakian owned export-import
company dealing with many commodities such as shoes, leather goods, furniture, cut glass, steel and of course
MEZ electric motors manufactured in Mohelnice, Frenstat and Drasov plants, which were later in 1994 acquired
by Siemens A&D. It was before Internet, mobile phones when I arrived. The letters were typed using a
typewriter, there was only one computer in the office and a few terminals (keyboard and monitor) but not a
mouse as MS Windows were not yet invented. And of course the top sophistication: The fax machine! to replace
Telex. The sales reps had however a car phone fitted in their cars between the front seats and the handset
remarkably resembled the office telephone as it was connected to the huge base unit with a curly cable we still
know today. The stock record was maintained in a thick book where every warehouse location had it own page
and all records were amended manually.
So during my time in Wellingborough I had seen the demise of Exico Limited as the profitable Electric Motor
Division was the only one to survive and in 2004 become Rotor (UK) Limited, now part of Regal Beloit
Corporation. During the long 20 years I have seen the UK electric motor market change completely and now
we all face the biggest revolution in electric motor industry: The implementation of the EuP Directive, which will
happen on 16th June 2011.
May I thank all customers, suppliers and employees, current and former for the good work and support because
without them I would not be where I am today. Many thanks.
CUSTOMER’S VOICE
BESPOKE TITANIUM COOLER
GDM Heat Transfer Ltd recently designed and supplied
one of its clients with an air blown cooler made from
titanium.
The Brief
The client was supplying an electronics cabinet fitted
on an oil rig located in the Norwegian oil fields. They
required an air blown cooler to re- circulate the cold
air around the sealed cabinet by pumping sea water
through the cooler. Because of the harsh environment,
standard materials such as copper and aluminium
tubes were not appropriate as the client wanted to
ensure longevity of the cooler due to the associated
problems of replacing parts on oil rigs.
The Solution
GDM Heat Transfer were able to design and
manufacture the titanium cooler in order to meet the
clients specifications. With the cold sea water being
pumped through the titanium tubes, the purpose of
the 0.25 kW ATEX electric motor sourced from
Rotor (UK) Limited and anti static fan was to
re-circulate the air around the cabinet to ensure that
the electronic panels did not overheat.
STAFF CORNER
Meet The Voice!
This edition will introduce our lovely
Selina Porter.
Selina has been with Rotor UK for 8 months and
has proven a great help and has grown to be an
integral part of the team. Selina is very hardworking
and approachable and takes no non-sense!
Statement: I have now been with Rotor UK Ltd for
8 Months and have enjoyed learning about motors
and continue to learn more each day, I have a
varied role and am never "bored" at Rotor, I am kept
on my toes and love the thrill of it!!! We are a great
team here.!
Hobbies: Love socializing, spending time with my
family, swimming, eating out and catching up with
old and new friends
Favourite colour: Pink!!
Prediction of Rotor’s future: Rotor has expanded in
the few months I have been here and I know it will
continue to grow and be successful.
GETTING A JOB IS NOT THE SAME AS KEEPING IT- FOR 20 YEARS!
'Now that you have a job, it is all about keeping it' is the usual statement of proud parents who were just advised that their
little darling has managed to obtain his or hers first job. It is very true, emerging successful amongst all the relevant job
applicants is merely the first step of the long Marathon ahead. This is especially the case in today's world of fast pace,
much aided by the astonishingly rapid overall technological development. A Century ago if your father was a smith then the
chances were that you too would become a smith. Nowadays Politics Graduates sell electric motors, Engineering graduates
do politics and the average longevity of a job role has been dramatically decreased. The way to succeed is to be able to
adapt to the ever changing industrial environment and keep up the pace with modern technologies.
But more over keeping pace with the complex, ever growing legislation and the concept of globalisation is another challenge.
We we are proud to announce that our Managing Director, Mr. Jerry Hodek has perfected these skills and
have been the leader of Exico Limited, Rotor (UK) Ltd and nowadays RBC (UK) for the past twenty years.
Jerry leads by example by working extremely hard, by setting parameters for the company to remain
professional, ahead of its competition, modern and profitable. This Newsletter is not long enough to
describe what Jerry does and does very well. Do you like our website? Jerry designed it single
handedly. Do you like our price list? Jerry designs them in Corel (the printers only print!). Jerry is
the technically most senior person and therefore offers a much valuable support for the technical
team. Jerry manages all staff and processes. Jerry does not stand still but adapts to the changing
industry and has remained in his position as a leader for two decades, irrespective of the
ownership of the company. Regal Beloit recognised his competence by appointing him the Head
of RBC UK but the Rotor team want to voice the fact that WE appreciate him most of all.
Well done Jerry and here is to another twenty years!
