password complexity manager (pcm)
a password is the primary security safeguard for the network. the stronger the password,
the better the security. the standard abilities that microsoft active directory offers to
regulate the strength and complexity of passwords are often insufficient. with password
complexity manager (pcm) from tools4ever, it is possible to enforce virtually any password
complexity rule.
With the introduction of Windows Server 2008 R2, Microsoft added
more options for regulating the complexity of passwords. The most
notable expansion was the ability to set password policies at the
organizational unit (OU) level with the introduction of Fine Grained
Password Policies.
Fine Grained Password Policies can be difficult to configure because
the complexity rules are valid at various levels (domain, user,
groups and OU). The rules might also be complementary, or overwrite
each other in accordance with specific priority. Among other
things, Fine Grained Password Policies also lack the user-friendly
notification for the end-user as to whether the newly chosen password
fulfills the complexity rules or not.
pcm
by tools4ever
PCM by Tools4ever is a user-friendly and complete alternative to
the limitations inherent with Microsoft in setting and using password
complexity. PCM offers a variety of options to achieve a user-friendly,
consistent and reliable configuration. These options are:
1. The management interface of PCM has been well thought out
and the complexity rules can be set easily and conveniently by
the administrator.
2. PCM is the only solution to provide an advanced simulation
mode with in which the configuration can be checked per user.
3. When the end-user enters a new password, the rules the new
password must comply with are shown step by step (see illustration).
pcm benefits:
u User-friendly interface.
u More options for defining the complexity rules.
u Native integration with Windows Active Directory.
PCM uses the Microsoft filter technology which runs on every domain controller and which imposes
the password complexity rules. Optionally, a component on the client side can ensure that the enduser
sees immediately whether the new password fulfills the complexity rules.
