DASD
Direct access storage device. Any storage
device that can immediately read or write
anywhere on its recording surface.
DSCB
Data set control block. A record in the DASD
VTOC containing control and descriptive
information about a data set.
DTF
Define the file. A control block used for
sequential or unit record access methods. For
example, DTFMT is sequential tape.
DVCDN status
Device down status. Device is not available.
DVCUP status
Device up status. Device is available.
DYNACC
CA general interface to the CA Dynam Catalog.
It accepts data requests, searches the Catalog
and returns data suitably formatted for
building reports.
DYNCAT
A CA utility program used to create, maintain
and report on the CA Dynam Catalog.
DYNDART
A CA utility program used to generate reports
for CA Dynam Catalog.
DYNPRINT
A CA common reporting component used by
the CA Dynam VSE family. Through CA Earl, it
can generate both standard and usercustomized
reports on CA Dynam tape, disk,
and Catalog activity.
EXTENT statement
JCL statement which defines each area of a
DASD file.
FBA
Fixed block architecture. A DASD architecture
where data is stored in fixed-size blocks that
are addressed by a block number relative to
the start of the file.
GETVIS
A dynamically managed storage area.
home address
Address of track relative to start of volume.
IOCS
Input/output control system. Used to transfer
data between main storage and auxiliary
storage devices.
IPL
Initial program load. Starting up of a computer
system.
keyword
A predefined word that identifies an operand
and is part of that operand. For example, the
keyword in BLKSZ=1210 is BLKSZ. The
keyword is the whole operand in the CA
Dynam/FI option RUN.
LIOCS
Logical input/output control system. Group of
macro instructions which create, retrieve and
change data files.
LTA
Logical transient area. Temporary storage area
used by system routines.
LUB
Logical unit block. Programmer logical unit or
SYSnumber. Used instead of actual device
address.
operand
A variable that specifies a value or an
operation to be performed. Used
interchangeably with 'parameter.'
