One additional step would be to avoid creating roads or pacing structures over existing burrows of badgers or their main prey Columbian Ground squirrels At the time of access construction, environmental monitors will scan the area for badgers. If a burrow is identified, appropriate mitigation measures will applied. This additional measure will be included in the construction EMP. 8 The potential presence of the bluelisted southern red-blacked vole (galei subspecies) might more appropriately be identified as "Likely" rather than "Unknown". 9 Table 5-7 identifies the least chipmunk as having been detected in the study area. 10 Olive-sided flycatchers (blue list) were recorded once in the surveys, near the northern end of the proposed route. 11 The list of garter snakes (Table 5- 10) does not mesh with expectations for this area. 12 It is not clear from the material available to my why this option B was chosen. Southern red-backed vole (galei subspecies) are listed ”Unknown” because AECOM does not have enough information to conclude otherwise. AECOM did not find any red-backed vole in the specific study area. It appears that there may have been a misidentification. AECOM cannot confirm that the rare species was present. BCTC recognizes that birds may be transient in the study area and mitigation measures have been provided in the EOA report. Rare birds could be nesting in the area, and mitigation measures as suggested in the Environmental Overview Report should reduce risks to all bird species. AECOM has good photo documentation for most of the snakes observed and would be happy to follow up with a species expert to confirm which sub-species was observed. The basis upon which Option B was identified as preferred is discussed in Section 5 of the CPCN Application (Exhibit B-1) No change in status. AECOM will issue errata to the Environmental Overview Assessment Report removing this species from the species list of confirmed mammals on site. Detailed assessment will be conducted at the time of the preparation of the construction EMP. Also, during the construction (ROW clearing and access construction) environmental monitors will survey for the nesting birds during the nesting season. No change in status. No change in status.
