CVT EOA ISSUES/ CONCERNS KTUNAXA NATION COUNCIL BCTC RESPONSES Status WILDLIFE & VEGETATION REVIEW OF EOA ISSUES & CONCERNS Vegetation 1 Sensitive ecosystems may be under-represented in mapping associated with this report. The environmental overview assessment was conducted using best available information, including PEM and TEM. Areas not covered by these datasets were supplemented by other data sources (e.g. VRI, air photo interpretation, field surveys, Ministry of Forest and Range (forest cover component of the RESULTS dataset) etc.). However, it is possible that some sensitive ecosystems were not captured given the depth of study defined for the project. BCTC has proposed general approaches that would address sensitive ecosystems such as using existing cleared areas, avoiding wetlands and old forest patches, having environmental monitors on site during construction and development of the construction Environmental Management Plan. Detailed assessment of the transmission alignments (230 and 69kV) will be done during the preparation of the construction Environmental Management Plan. 2 The assertion that there will be a Low Potential Impact on sensitive ecosystems does not seem to be well supported. AECOM conducted an environmental overview assessment based on conceptual project information and has recommended BCTC to apply best management practices in conjunction with environmental monitoring during construction to reduce risk. AECOM rated the potential impact of the project on sensitive ecosystems as moderate in the absence of mitigation and low with mitigation after consideration of a number of factors: Potential disturbance would not be severe enough to cause irreversible damage to these ecosystems. BCTC does not have the authority to establish Old Growth Management Areas on crown land – establishment and management of OGMAs is the responsibility of B.C. Integrated Land Management Bureau.
