Issues
1 Temporary / permanent harmful
alteration, disruption or destruction of fish
habitat (HADD), specifically modifications
to riparian areas composition and
structure.
The initial design process will assume that all streams
and water bodies are fish bearing and will design
crossings of the water bodies and streams
appropriately. Once the final design alignment is
complete BCTC will have the water bodies assessed
for fish and fish habitat. Where BCTC may be unable
to avoid effecting fish habitat BCTC’s will consult with
DFO and follow appropriate guidelines.

Fish survey will be initiated during
the development of the
construction EMP
2 Noise/ disturbance and modifications to
fish behavior (i.e. displacement during
spawning / rearing or critical life history
stages) as a result of construction and
subsequent maintenance activity.
3 Impacts on water quality (refueling,
increased sedimentation during run offs
events as a result of clearing right of way
and pathways, construction activities and
maintenance of the transmission line)
4 Cumulative impacts- as it relates to water
quality, fish and fish habitat.
BCTC will conduct riparian clearing and any in stream
works within any DFO prescribed in-stream work
windows to minimize the effect on fish.
BCTC will prepare a detailed construction
environmental management plan that specifies
requirements for erosion and sediment control
measures to avoid or minimize the transport of
sediment into natural water bodies.
The KNC will be consulted in the development of the
construction EMP. The draft construction EMP will
also be reviewed by Ministry of Environment and
Department of Fisheries and Oceans staff.
The area in which the project is proposed has an
infrastructure of roads, trails, and forestry activity, and
range and farm lands. This project will likely overlap
with existing and past projects that may have had an
effect on the watercourses within the study area.
