INTRODUCTION
BC Transmission Corporation (BCTC) is a provincial Crown corporation responsible
for planning, managing, operating and maintaining most of the provincial power
transmission system and its interconnection with the larger North American grid.
The communities in the upper Columbia Valley, the area of the Columbia Valley
between Invermere and Golden, are experiencing significant load growth. As a result
of this load growth, the regional transmission system that supplies this area is rapidly
reaching its supply capacity. Golden, which is the largest and fastest growing load
centre in the upper Columbia Valley, is located at the end of this line.
The community in the upper Columbia Valley and the Town of Golden are presently
supplied by a single 69 kV transmission line (60L271) approximately 129 km in
length between Invermere Substation (INV) and Golden Substation (GND). This 69
kV transmission line also supplies four other distribution substations along its route in
the upper Columbia Valley.
For this project, BCTC has retained AECOM Canada to conduct a detailed
Environmental Overview Assessment study. The study report is available on request.
BCTC is seeking the services of a firm to complete an Archeology Impact
Assessment and act as the Archaeological Officer for the duration of the Project.
BCTC is interested in firms that have experience working with First Nations in the
Project area. The Shuswap Indian Band, and the Ktunaxa Nation Council
(representing the ?Akisq’nuk First Nation, the Lower Kootenay Indian Band, the St.
Mary’s Indian Band, and the Tobacco Plains Indian Band) have been identified as
having an interest in the Project area (see Appendix XXX – FN Maps).
