DRAFT REPORT: Rights and Title Interests in the Columbia Valley Transmission Project Area men hunted in the Columbia Valley. Discussions with Chief Kinbasket indicate that he established residency in the Columbia Valley, likely in the 1840s, and had a number of camps. Subsequent to the establishment of this residency, the Kinbasket family’s contact with their kin among the Shuswap Lake Division became less. They increasingly intermarried with the neighbouring Ktunaxa. At the time the Indian Reserve Commission set aside lands for the Kinbasket Shuswap and for the Columbia Lake Ktunaxa in 1884, the Kinbasket Shuswap were an autonmous band with linguistic ties to the Secwepemc, but with strong social ties to the neighbouring Ktunaxa. As I mentioned when we spoke on March 17,2010, based on the most recent letter that the Lakes Division of the Secwepemc Nation (the 'Lakes Division') sent to BC Hydro regarding the CVT Project on December 10, 2009, which states, "We remain in full support of the Shuswap Indian Band and their leadership role regarding the Columbia Valley Transmission Project.", I was somewhat surprised to hear your comments that you feel that The Lakes Division may not have been properly consulted with respect to the CVT Project. As I also mentioned, I am still,8s I have always been, open to further discussing concerns that the Lakes Division may have with regard to the Project, and your role in supporting the Shuswap Indian Band.
