NEWSLETTER 90 www.sports2000-srcc.com February 16th 2011
Happy New Year, somewhat late so let’s go for Happy New Season!! 2011 should be a cracking season
with lots more new faces, a few car changes for our competitors and some great tracks to race on.
The new Snetterton 300 should be interesting and a double dose of Donington followed by the new Silverstone
Arena GP track must be the icing on the cake. Let’s not forget two other excellent tracks that we visit, Oulton
Park International and Cadwell Park, real drivers tracks. We finish off the championship with our customary
visit to the Formula Ford Festival, what a great way to end the season especially being in the garages!!
Oops mustn’t forget the cherry on the top of course, our visit to Spa at the Summer Classic…. What more
could you want!!
2 0 1 1 - W H A T ’ S N E W !
ll
n Well we have many new faces, I’ll give a roll call in the next newsletter when I get all the registrations
forms back but the youngest is 17 and the oldest 71 and that is the gospel truth. I’ll spill the names and
cars next newsletter.
n 2011 sees the start of the new Manufacturers Championship, this championship is to recognise the
contribution they have made in making Sports 2000 what it is today. However there is a twist….. we need
car numbers not one or two very quick cars but 30 or 40 on the grid. So this is aimed to represent just that ie
only OWNER DRIVERS can score points for the manufacturer. This means no hired cars, borrowed cars or
pre 2002 cars count to the championship. As the years roll on it should prove to be an interesting league table.
So the more cars a manufacturer has sold out on the grid the more points they amass.
n A new class for 2011 thanks to a sponsor who wishes at this point in time to be anonymous. The “MASTERS
CLASS” champion can come from Pinto or Duratec, scored the same way as the overall championship but to
get your points you have to be 60 or over. Awarded at the annual D&D.
I think it’s quite appropriate now we have quite a few youngsters coming in and an aging hard core of racing
enthusiasts!!
n Scheduled to start in 2012 is our Enduro Championship, initially a 4 round championship of 1 hour races
where you have 1 car and 1 or 2 driver format with compulsory pit stop. These will become a no refuelling
championship so we expect in the first year to allow refuelling but certainly after that any refuelling will incur
a time penalty. Not only will this allow people to share a car but more to the point it does enable 2 to share the
cost of buying a new car. It makes perfect sense as even our European race allows you to share a car.
RACE REGISTRATION
FORMS
The race registration form is with this newsletter, the race
registration fee has not increased and is the same as last
year. This fee along with our sponsorship allows us to
provide you with the level of service you have become to
expect and ensures we visit the very best circuits in the UK
and Europe. If you have been running with a particular race
number in 2010 then you will have first call on that number
providing you register before the 25th of March and have
paid the registration fee.
RADIAL TYRES
As you all know the test on the new Radial slicks was a total
success with more grip (especially when cold) less wear, less
susceptible to punctures, less roll and hence less body rub.
If we don’t break all lap records in 2011 I’ll eat my new
Christmas hat!!
Delivery is still scheduled for March this year.
QUESTIONNAIRE
You will also find a questionnaire with this newsletter, please
fill it in as it helps us to go with the majority! When you are in
a numbers game to survive we need to go with the majority!!!
I know there has been talk about double headers, my fear of
these is they cost the club over £20,000 to hold and if
because of the increased entry fee it is this meeting that
members miss to save money the club will be financially
stressed to say the least.
Having said that I’m always willing to give something a try
once…. So we have one double header at Donington so
please don’t let me down, enter….....
SPONSORSHIP NEWS
We are now in the final year of our 3 year
sponsorship package from Xennia (Historic
championship) and the March Racing Academy
(Duratec championship). Our ability to ride the
reccession and still continue to grow the Duratec
championship is down to Alan Hudd who organised
the sponsorship. It made a huge difference and
allowed us to maintain a first rate service for our
members to enjoy the very best circuits.
HISTORIC CHAMPIONSHIP
Sports 2000 Historic, well I’m still convinced of
its potential and from the support I was getting at
the Autosport show I hope to continue the
championship for the foreseeable future. Having
said that 2011 is the crunch year for historics,
they must be able to stand on their own feet to
continue in 2012 and beyond. We know the cars
are out there we just need to get them on the
track!!
If you want a historic championship then you
must support it!!
SPA 2011
We will be at Spa for the Summer Classic,
again in those luxurious garages so make
sure you book everything up now. Spa is a
must if you have not been before and a must
if you have as it will be a few years before we
are back again. I have now booked Dijon for
2012 and Le Mans for 2013 and provisional
2014 date for Hockenheim.
The format is the same, one 30 min qualifying
session and two 30 min races so you can
share a car should you so wish.
We recently lost a potential major sponsor due to the
presentation of some of our cars. So we all need to
be aware that tatty cars do let the formula down as a
whole. It is in our regulations that cars should be in
a presentable state!! To help I’m pleased to
announce that “TOOL ORDERS” a company that
supplies tools to virtually all industries, will be
donating tool vouchers at each race meeting. These
will go to, on alternative race meetings, to the best
presented car and most improved car. More in the
next newsletter.
SCRUTINEERING MATTERS Must thank Jonathan Crook who stood in when we
needed a scrutineer, thanks Jonathan. For 2011 however we have a dedicated and pro active eligibility scrutineer.
Coming on board is Jack McVicker and he comes with over 40 years in the motsrsport arena as well as being experienced
in all forms of automotive engineering including the computer based technologies.
I will give you all a full run down on Jack in the next newsletter and he will be introducing himself at our first
meeting. Jack will be at our meetings and if you have any concerns on any aspect of the regulations then please do
bend his ear.
His qualifications include environmental and general car scrutineering as well as eligibility scrutineering and he has
has a vast amount of experience. He is there to ensure we maintain a level playing field for all.

The SRCC stand at the 2011
Autosport Show
Left:to right:- RAY, Pinto March 81S, MCR and
We had lots of interest in our cars at this year’s Autosport Show at the NEC. Several from people that sampled Sports 2000
racing a few years ago and now want to come back having tried other formula (which is always a good sign!!).
The cars on our stand included Damian Griffin’s RAY far left, next was our Pinto example the 1981 March 81S (available to
buy), and alongside we have new boy, Paul Martin’s MCR sporting its fresh paint scheme and finally the March 09R.
Must thank Alan Hudd for the TV/player, table and chairs, Cindy (MCR fame) for our fantastic new back drop and March,
MCR and RAY for their contribution to the stand costs which allowed the SRCC to be there.
Must again thank the great and ever cheerful Cindy for her help with the design of our SRCC flyer and big thank you to David
Houghton for printing it. Talking of David, fantastic to see the transition to Van Diemen Duratec this season lets hope its
painless and you are on the grid for the first race. I’ll spill the beans in the next newsletter as to who has changed to what
as there are some very exciting moves afoot and if the intended moves into our formula take place we are in for the most
competitive season since Sports 2000 begun back in 1977.
MACAU GP
MACAU GP 2011.........This trip just keeps getting better all the time. The lucky winner, sorry I mean the VERY
VERY lucky winner will have 2 tickets to fly out to Macau on Wednesday 16th November returning on Monday
November 21st. You will be staying at the Fortuna hotel which is the same hotel most of the drivers and teams
are staying in and just a short walk from the race track. You will have 2 passes to use the Yokohama hospitality
centre and grandstand seats for all days.
Again thanks to Yokohama you will be able to meet any of the teams or drivers.
If that isn’t enough you will have the opportunity to visit China and Hong Kong while you are over there or even
extend your return flight for more sightseeing.
So just to reiterate-
*Free return flights to Macau
*Free hotel accommodation
*Free full Yokohama hospitality for all days
*Free grandstand seats for all days
Macau GP has something for everyone, an exciting street circuit, World Touring Cars, International F3,
motorbikes, a truly awesome experience and one that is seldom enjoyed due to its location on the other side
of the world!!
All you have to do to win this trip of a lifetime is to enter 8 races and your name will then go into a hat to find
the winner. The best odds you will ever have in any competition!!
The draw will take place at the Formula Ford Festival and the winners so far have been Clive Steeper (2009)
and Harry Chapman (2010) but who will win in 2011???
