SPORTS 2000 30th ANNIVERSARY
D&D 2007 December 1st
30th Anniversary Dinner & Dance December 1st 2007 at the Hilton Hotel, Warwick
This is one D&D you can’t miss, with so many S2 celebrities including John Webb the creator of our formula back in 1976.
We expect to get key people from all the manufacturers and it is a rare opportunity to chat to guys like Howden Ganley.
Howden is like an encyclopedia on Tiga race cars, amazing. We have designers like Bob Marston who was given the job
of coming up with the first Sports 2000 for Lola. We also hope to have most of the grid for the first race back in 1977
including Davina Galcia the winner at Oulton Park. Then there are the champions over the 30 years like Sean Walker and
names that you read about in Lola history like Mike Blanchet the works test driver……… We are adding to the list all the
time so I think the afternoon Q&A session hosted by Brian Jones will be very interesting indeed.
The day starts with a tour around the Lola factory starting at 10am in the morning till 12 noon and our Q&A session in the
afternoon at the Hilton Hotel starting at 2pm. If you would like to order sandwiches etc at £5 a head let me and these will
be available during the afternoon sessions. The AGM is from 4pm till 5pm after the Q&A session and as we are short on
time if you have anything for AOB please send it to me in writing.
Reception will be at 6.30pm and carriages will be arriving at 2.00am. Please indicate if you have any dietary requirements
and get your tickets ASAP as we can only accommodate 250 guests.
The hotel will reserve rooms up to 1 month prior to the function so to ensure you get a room and at the discount price book
NOW.
We desperately need the funds so we will still have the auction but it will be much shorter and during the meal which
worked really well last year. SO please can you see if you can get something for the auction, with no sponsor it really does
make a difference.
The 2007 season video will be on the big screen and on sale at £10, fantastic value as they consist of 4 or 5 DVD’s. There
is one for Duratec, Pinto and Historic.
Remember the hotel does run out of rooms so don’t leave it too late to book.
Come and support the Historic, Pinto and Duratec winners. Support YOUR club we need you all there.
Too book a room at Hilton Hotel ring 01926 499555 and quote GSPOA Sports Racing Car Club. If all rooms become
booked there is another hotel over the road ring 01926483000.
All Sports 2000 competitors over the 30 years of Sports 2000 racing are welcome to the reunion and look forward to seeing
everybody at our anniversary get together.

ATTENTION ALL
The key announcement at this years 30th anniversary D&D is centered around the promotion of the club and
our formula. This has all been made possible thanks to our Sports 2000 enthusiast the late Mike Bohling who
sadly passed away in March this year. Sandra Bohling, Mike’s widow, commented, “Mike loved the Sports
2000 Championship and saw this as a perfect way to put something back into the series. You could say he was
the archetypal club racer and he certainly lived for his racing. I hope that this prize will help attract more young
talent to Sports 2000 and reward those who succeed.”
The exact nature of this award will be announced at this years D&D along with the Duratec winners. Presented
by Sandra it is not to be missed!!!
We welcome all overseas visitors so come and meet the legends behind Sports 2000 over the last 30 years.
This is a one off, these famous nemes will never all be together again so don’t miss out, get your tickets NOW.

CHANGES FOR 2008
DRIVING STANDARDS
Changes for next year, the main area of change will be in the policing of
driving standards. Overall I think our standards are exemplary as
witnessed in our 1 hour race but there are still one or two that drive in a
manner likely to cause an incident or are reckless at the start. It was clear
from this year that to “educate” these competitors we need to police it as
a club using independent MSA stewards and a warning card system with
the eventual exclusion from the club if they continue to drive in a
dangerous manner. Full details will be in the next newsletter but as I said
before overall I think we are one of the best formulas out there but if we
become complacent the situation can quickly change.
TECHNICAL SCRUTINEERING
The second major change is with technical scrutineering, Mick
Mobberley has spent the last year obtaining his MSA scrutineering licence
and will be joining us next season to police that side of our formula. With
expert use of the cam checker and a keen ear on engine sounds Pinto
technical checking will take on a whole new meaning, gone will be the
long queues waiting to be weighed. Apart from the random checks that
will take place cars will be selected that look or sound suspicious. On the
Duratec front ECU’s will be checked in situ to ensure they have not been
tampered with. Any car that is suspiciously fast will be sealed along with
the ECU and the car will then be checked on a rolling road to ensure it is
within the specified limits (documented in the 2008 regulations). Above
the upper limit and the engine will be stripped.
Mick has been around race cars and engines most of his life (ran Ian Flux
in Sports 2000 in the 80’s) and is more than capable of identifying any
cheating that may be going on. NOT that anybody does that sort of thing
of course but it is so important that it is seen to be clean and sufficient
checks are carried out to ensure it does not happen.
SRCC
SPONSORSHIP
This year has been an immense
struggle financially with no
sponsor on board and trying to
keep the good circuits is
difficult when some formula
pay over the odds to be
there!!… and then there’s the
politics, the deals that are
difficult to do when on a shoe
string. A title sponsor will make
a huge difference but we must
not forget those that have helped
us with various aspects of
running the club like Yokohama,
Harry Chapman and TMS,
Xennia and Mark Stuart Racing.
You guys make such a
difference.
Everybody please keep looking
for that elusive sponsor… one
day…...
MAGAZINE
It is now magazine time, and I’m on
the search for more rocking horse
s**t!! Needless to say its pretty thin
on the ground so can we please have
some articles from the workshop
(please note Chris Snowdon, Peter
Richardson, Mick Mobberley, Steve
Mole…….) and you competitors
articles on the history of your car,
finding those parts, bearing numbers
etc. Original sales brochures,
articles, pictures etc, you have seen
previous mags so you know what is
required.
NEWS SERVICE
The Car/Driver profile will be finished
over the winter and updated at the start
of the season. You will be notified
where the electronic form will be
either by email news service or on the
web site home page and forum.
It is important therefore to make sure
you are registered for our email news
service. If your email address changes
then you will need to re register. The
service is free!! An example of the
Car/Driver profile is on our home
page.

THE FUTURE
HISTORIC
Apart from no sponsors the future for the SRCC and Sports 2000 is all positive. The introduction of the
Historic Championship has been virtually an instant success nearly 20 cars out this year and another 10 already
committed for next year plus anymore that decide over the winter to come in. The Historic Motor Show is
bound to capture several more.
It was fantastic to see the Swedes with us and next year we have been promised more plus one or two from
Belgium and France.
For 2008 if all competitors have a grade A licence we may have 4 rounds in the UK and one overseas with the
best 4 from 5 counting towards the championship.
PINTO
The future of the Pinto championship has now been secured with the advent of the historic championship as
enough historic cars will also do the Pinto championship to give a full grid. It’s only a full grid that will ensure
the Pinto’s survival and as many buy a Pinto car to eventually move up to the Duratec championship the value
and popularity of these cars continues to be high.
DURATEC
Its been slow but its all been one way and that is up. Averaging 20 cars for this year a marked increase will
take place as soon as the latest cars are on the pace. Both the Lola and Juno are improving all the time and
both will not rest until they are on the pace. MCR have sold a couple more cars and the Tiga SC85 Duratec
car is being converted back to Pinto with the Duratec engine turning the Reynard project into a Duratec Sports
2000, Dave Whitham’s Duratec Swift DB2 will be ready for the start of the 2008 season as will be the eagerly
awaited Motus.
New for 2008 Duratec season is the all new “Derek Bell Cup Class” for drivers aged 50 and over. Supported
by Derek himself and sponsored by Medicom I have a feeling it is going to be a popular class indeed!!! This
means in the Duratec there will be 3 classes, Class A, Class B and the Derek Bell Cup Class.
Also new for the Duratec season is the Mike Bohling legacy, as mentioned earlier details of this staggering
and awesome opportunity for a couple of Duratec competitors will be unveiled at the D&D, it should certainly
put Sports 2000 on the map!!
Photo Mike Lambert
The Duratec races are getting closer with 4 differant leaders at Thruxton and the last race of the year Tom Mills jumped
into Mark Higson’s Gunn TS8 and promptly won the race...nothing wrong with the Gunn then! Both the Gunn and the Van
Diemen looked as if they were on rails. Photos above show the winners from Brands Hatch at the Formula Ford Festival,
from left to right Rick Johnson, Tom Mills and the ever improving Rupert Russell.
