These are very common posts that you find in one’s
Face book page, and in fact are the most commonly
posted comments on Face Book itself across the entire
user base. The world is moving towards social media,
and is highly collaborated. Same is the case in India
as well.
Gone are the days when we hardly had computers in
the houses. Today India has moved from Desktop’s,
to Laptop’s to Smart Phone’s and now to Tablets’,
and is currently the fastest growing smart phone and
tablet market in the world. We live in the 3G world
and soon would shift to the 4G. Humans are more
connected to humans via technology than physically.
The Internet user base in the country today is
approximately 125 million plus and India is also among
the top three fastest growing markets worldwide in
the last 12 months for internet connectivity. This
paradigm shift of use of technology in our lives has
brought about a drastic change in the world of
marketing.
I would like to share a few interesting facts, which
when put together helps corporations today to decide
on their key marketing strategy.
First interesting fact is that, More than three quarters
of active Internet users in India, engage in social
networking, which would account to 62 million plus
social media users in urban India. Second, about 75
per cent of this online audience in India are between
the age group of 15-34 years, making India one of the
youngest online demographic globally. Third is that
among the top five popular categories accessed online
are social networkings, portals, search, entertainment
and news sites. Adding to which is the next most
interesting fact, Fourth, 60 per cent of all Social media
users in India, refer suggestions, comments, feedbacks
and reviews from other users, before making any
purchase decision. This has got great marketing
significance, to today’s corporate, in terms of what
marketing strategy to decide on- where they are
present, Where and how to advertise their products,
what activities to engage in with their target audiences,
where, and how etc. In short, the space today to be in
for marketers today, is the social media, and the
strategy is “Go Social” , as that is where they would
find their target audiences, be it any industry, any
product, any demography.
Face Book, Google +, Twitter, LinkedIn, MySpace,
blogs etc are the various leading social sites today and
that is exactly where the youth of India are present
and are active and this is exactly where corporations
need to be today.

Facebook says its numbers have
crossed 62 million in India and of which
50% are active users.
Most of the companies have huge ad budgets for the
Print and the Visual Media. But what they forget or
don’t know is that, Facebook is seven to eight times
the size of the largest print publication, larger than
TV channels.
One of the biggest challenges is the companies thought
process. Many of them believe that just by having a
mere presence in the various social media sites is going
to get them visibility, mind share and more business,
which is not true. Almost every brand is on all the
social sites, but just as a checklist. One needs to
understand that there is your competition also present
in all of these social sites, and therefore to differentiate
from them, to gain the target audience mind share
and become the top of the mind recall brand or
product, you need to have a unique social strategy
and also be continuously active and engaged with the
audience. Hence the company should not just decide
to be on the social media from a checkpoint
perspective, but need to have a strong strategy,
roadmap laid down on what is the objective of going
social and how and when to reach that objective.

CENTRAL BUDGET : A REVIEW
Mr. P. Chidambaram, Union Finance
Minister has announced on 28 th Feb 2013
his Budget for 2013-14. This budget has
never been a populist Budget as expected
by everybody for it had been branded as
Pre Election Budget. Mr Chidambaram
projected his economic principles in the
forefront rather than populastic
announcements squandering crores of
money in loan write off, subsidies etc.
Growth –Inflation-Current Account Deficit
Country is facing Major economic problems. like
1.Negative growth in manufacturing 2.High
consumer price inflation in double digit
3.Exhorbitantly high current account deficit 4.over
expected fiscal deficit and 5.Very slow growth in
GDP.
Presenting a balanced budget under the shadows
of all the above messy economic conditions, was
a herculean task. The UPA II Government lacks
enough political backing also, working on wafor.

as a knowledgeable economist while announcing
this popular budget.
Enforcement. FM has introduced some service
enforcement measures to collect taxes, like fixing

authorities - (a-non-bailable offence). If passed in
the Parliament a Central Excise Commissioner can
authorize a superintendent to effect such arrests.

in the next year atleast. FBI rules simplified.
Finance Minister has targeted a dis investment
revenue of Rs. 55000 Crores in the year 2013-14

Even though FM has made some very important
statements on Goods & Service Tax
implementation in his 2013-14 budget, it is
unlikely to happen in this financial year itself. FM
has noble intentions on GSt, but unfortunately the
bad politics prevailing in the country does not
permit to implement the GST immediately. Govt's.
is unpreparedness is also another reason for this
fate of things. The back end infrastructure is not
ready. IT backbone is week. Training of employees
and their redeployment is a major challenge for
the dept. In the Parliament a majority of state
legislators has to endorse the constitutional
amendment bill so that state Govts are to be
empowered to collect service tax. A Dispute
settlement mechanism is also essentially required
for GST rollout 2015 may be the nearest possible
time target.

Govt to revise Investment Thresholds for MSMES
In tie with the inflationary trends in the Indian
Economy, GOI is proposing to increase the investment
limit to define what is Micro ?,what is small
scale and what is a medium scale unit. The Parliamentary
standing committee has already decided
to amend the MSME Act 2006 and will move
in the next Parliament session, The amendments
with regard to revise the fixed capital investments.
Complex labour Laws, incentivised excise duty
rules are all discouraging expansion of Micro &
Small Scale Units. Manufacturing share in GDP
has slid to 13.6% in 2012-13 from 17% in 2002-
03, contributing massively to the so- called jobless
growth.
The Government feels raising the threshold limits
of investments in Plant & machinery in every
Three years. The indication is that the new thresholds
based on investment in plant and machinery
will stand at Rs.35 lakh for micro and Rs.7 crore
for small and Rs.14 crore for medium. Enterprises.
