ABSTRACT
It has long been viewed that the unique variations in biogeochemical
characteristics of Indian mangroves indicate coastal change are
happening in India. Due to their changing coastal characterizes , its
diversity and mortality indicate that these coastal ecosystems are so
sensitive to any minor variation in their hydrological or tidal regimes
and land use changes or SLR which is slowly leading to their
disappearance or stunted growths. Each species of mangrove occurs
in ecological conditions that approach its limit of tolerance with
regard to salinity and pollution levels of the water and soil, as well as
the inundation regime. The recent observations shows that the modified
tectonic, sedimentological , hydrological events and anthropogenic
activities made the species to forcefully readjusts to the prevailing
alien conditions that are unsuitable to their growth and are losing their
biogeochemical identity . The recent observation on biogeochemistry in
Indian mangroves and adjoining Bangladesh mangroves on the above
mentioned aspects gives us an insight into their decreasing resilience
capability and may be a bigger threat in future for their survival.
