Please note: for the next two Thursdays, students are required to wear full school uniform
to school.
**Thursday, September 20 is school photo day in the Macaulay Gym for Grades K-11
students. Students need to wear their full school uniform including school blazer, dress shirt,
school tie, school pants, belt, dark socks and shoes. No summer uniform. If your son is missing
any uniform items, please order these from the Argyle Shop. Also, please plan haircuts now!
** Thursday, September 27: Academic Awards Ceremony for the 2011-2012 school year.
9:30 a.m. Coristine Hall. Students need to wear their full school uniform including school
blazer, dress shirt, school tie, school pants, belt, dark socks and shoes.
Wednesday, September 19: New Parents Reception hosted by the Parents Association 7:00
p.m. Coristine Hall. This is for parents who are new to the school for 2012-2013.
Argyle Shop: The shop has resumed regular business hours: Tuesdays from 8:00 – 9:30 am;
Wednesdays from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm; Thursdays from 1:30 – 3:30 pm.

Friday, September 28: OPUS Cards: If your son’s OPUS card expiration date is October 31,
2012 or if he does not have an OPUS photo ID card, he may obtain one at the school’s OPUS
photo session on Friday, September 28, 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. in the Rossy Agora. This OPUS
photo I.D. Card entitles the student to benefit from the reduced fares for students aged 12-25.
Please note that the OPUS access form requires a parental signature (bottom of page 2) if the
student is less than 14 years old:

To purchase a new Opus Card, students should bring: The cost of the OPUS card
purchased at the school’s photo session is $14. For a lost or damaged Opus card, students must
go to STM Photo Studio – at the McGill metro station at 2020 University to obtain a new card.

Wednesday, October 3: CEGEP Information Night: 7:00 p.m. Trafalgar (3495 Simpson) is
hosting an open house for Grade 11 parents and students for approximately fifteen postsecondary
institutions. From 6:30 through 8:30 pm the night of October 3, representatives from
local universities, the CEGEPs and various Grade 12 programs will answer questions. Please

Epipen Protocol: If your child has a prescribed Epipen, he should carry it on him at all
times. This would be in addition to the Epipen that must be kept in the Front Office. If
your son had an epipen in the Front Office last year, please confirm with Mrs. Annie Snabl, our
receptionist, that it has not expired.
Student Absences or Lateness: Please call the school by 8:15 a.m. (Ms. Wong, 514 931-9481 ext 2239
or email wonga@selwyn.ca), should your son miss Period 1 attendance for any reason. Your son is
required to bring a note upon his return to school accounting for his absence or lateness, and to sign-in in
the book outside the senior school office, and obtain a late-to-class note for class.
Directory Information: If you have moved during the summer or if you have a new telephone
number or e-mail address, please e-mail the changes to Kelli Poulin (poulink@selwyn.ca) The
information gathered will be used to create an Emergency Phone Chain and the Student Directory. It
is extremely important that this information is accurate. Thank you for your cooperation.

Students' grades and schedule information are available online at NetClassroom (the link is under
the Resources menu at www.selwyn.ca).
Parent login information for NetClassroom was emailed to you on Wednesday, September 5,
but if you did not receive that email, contact Ms. Kelli Poulin (poulink@selwyn.ca) and she will
be able to email it to you.
Please tell your friends: Selwyn House will have a booth at the Our Kids Montreal Private
Schools Expo, at the Hilton Bonaventure, on Sunday, September 16, noon to 4 pm. A QAIS
information session about eligibility, under Bill 115, will take place at 11 am, before the exhibit.

Parent volunteers are needed for the OPEN HOUSE on Tuesday, October 2, from 4:30 to 8 pm.
As a volunteer, you will work at the registration table to greet prospective families and answer

questions about the school. Please email Christine Cachia at ccachia@videotron.ca if you can
help out, even if just for an hour! Thank you.
Science Program Internship Opportunity: Two or three volunteer positions are available for
students with strong science backgrounds, or who have an interest in pursuing science in the
future. Successful applicants will be required to use their education for the research and
development of science labs to be performed by their peers. They will gain experience and
knowledge of the nature of chemicals, use of scientific equipment and proper lab techniques.
They will become familiar with how to manage and maintain a laboratory to keep it functional,
professional and efficient. This unique opportunity may count toward their portfolio and their
duke of ed. A letter of reference for future educational or career moves may also be available

Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing: All Midget, Senior soccer
players and all Grade 9 football players to go on line and complete the impact test prior to
school on Monday.
This year, Selwyn House athletes participating in contact sports will be asked to complete a
baseline cognitive test called ImPACT in an effort to better manage concussions. ImPACT
(Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) is a computer based
concussion evaluation system that is used to collect baseline and post concussion information on
athletes. ImPACT provides valuable information to assist qualified practitioners in making sound
return to play decisions following concussions. Given the inherent complexities of concussion
management, it is important to manage concussions on an individualized basis and to implement
baseline testing and/or post-injury neurocognitive testing whenever possible. Neurocognitive
assessments, such as ImPACT, can help to objectively evaluate the concussed athlete's postinjury
condition and track recovery for safe return to play, thus preventing the cumulative effects
of concussion. Athletes ideally perform a baseline ImPACT test in the preseason to provide us
with information on how they normally perform on the different aspects of the test. In the event
of a possible concussion, the athlete is asked to repeat the ImPACT. Along with a medical
examination, this information is used to determine if the athlete has suffered a concussion and
when that athlete has fully recovered from a concussion. Go to
