this coast line we know that they were used in Lista immediately south of Jæren, and that
the game is still a living tradition in Bergen not far to the north of Jæren. At some time
a similar game with cat sticks may have been in use on the coast area of Jæren where
daldøsa is played today, but it is also possible that the daldøsa game had a wider distribution
area earlier on. The similarities between these dice sticks and the daldøsa dice are
remarkable, and we may suppose that there was a direct relationship between these two
traditions, both recorded for Southern Norway, even if not from exactly the same
regions.
We know actually very little about this subject. This is only a preliminary investigation,
which might hopefully inspire other scholars to contribute to this little-known
field of research.
