If I kept it to myself
I have a Certificate in Social Work Methods from
the University of Zambia as well as certificates in
Psychosocial counselling in HIV and AIDS and
in support group training. I now work with NZP+
as the Lusaka District Coordinator, in charge of
coordinating 150 support groups of people living
with HIV and AIDS.
My own uncle, who thought he had the right to
abuse me sexually just because he was paying
my college fees, made me very vulnerable to
HIV infection. I work with NGOs, churches,
communities and schools, and with out of school
youth and other youth groups. I encourage youth
to acquire more information on sexuality and
try to break the silence on incest by telling my
own story. I also work with communities, and
especially help HIV positive people establish
support groups. I am also a member of a support
group of PLWHA.
I work with households by initiating topics on
HIV and AIDS, getting their views, and sharing
the little knowledge I have. I also feature on
the Buaze Radio Show produced by a youth
organisation called Africa Directions. On the
radio programme we try to bring out issues
affecting young people and use the time to lobby
the government to do something about specific
issues that need attention.
