RVSI Inspection Introduces Vision System for Defect Inspection
HAUPPAUGE, NY February 3, 2006 RVSI Inspection LLC, a leader in semiconductor
package and bumped wafer inspection, announces the release of a new Vision System for defect
inspection on semiconductor packages.
RVSI Inspection recently shipped its first production version of a new Package Visual Inspection
(PVI) platform incorporating AVS vision technology. This new capability enhances the
company’s LS series products. PVI complements the company’s unique MicroMap 3-D
metrology, forming a total package inspection solution that is unmatched in the industry. The
new platform operates at speeds as much as 4X the previous generation, thus returning a great
benefit in COO by removing the classical “bottleneck” of PVI.
Michael Gray, VP Sales/Marketing/Field Operations commented, “The semiconductor
Assembly/Test had long ago standardized on MicroMap 3-D and has come to expect
MicroMap’s continuous speed increases. With the introduction of the LS-8000 last year
however, the mismatch with PVI became unacceptable. We knew if we didn’t close the gap the
industry would leave us behind as PVI and visual type defects became a focus of yield loss. After
successful beta we decided it was time to go to market, and the response has been very positive.
Mr. Gray concluded, “it is great to know that our customers can finally tap the great speed
benefits of MicroMap 3-D without giving it back at the vision inspect step.”
Frank Jacovino, VP of Technology, was pleased with his team’s effort. “At the point of the
Ancora acquisition, we were well behind the curve in terms of PVI performance. Sales insisted
there was no time for anything resembling a normal engineering development: we needed the
system through beta in 2005 and ready for shipment immediately in 2006. Certainly, I was
feeling the pressure, but when the first beta tests showed we had outperformed our original
estimates, I knew we had come through. This team took the speed balance of PVI/3-D metrology
from a 50 percent deficit to having headroom for the future. I am very proud of what they’ve
accomplished.”
