Week 2, Term 3 Learning Together 26/7/2012
Dear families
Welcome back for term 3. I trust everyone spent
valuable time with family and enjoyed the twoweek
vacation.
It is fantastic to see our students return to
school and settle back into routines so quickly and
calmly.
We have another busy term ahead of us, some of
the planned activities include;

Year 5 & 6 Overnight excision
Parent / Teacher Interviews
Just to name a few.
Peer Support
Peer Support started last
week and the Year 6’s
started their journey to
becoming great leaders.
Some are already
demonstrating quality leadership skills by keeping
their group engaged in interesting and fun games.
Last week and this week
the groups are getting to
know each other and are
completing activities to
help learn more about each
other and to be a cooperative group member.
You can encourage your child to talk at home
about peer support by
asking them who is in their
group, their leader and the
activities they complete.
Attached is the term calendar to help everyone
to keep up to date with what’s going on at our
school.

Low SES Parent Information Session
We will be holding a Low SES National
Partnership parent information session next term
on Wednesday 1 st August at 5:30pm in the
staffroom. In this session, you will find out about
how we are directing our funding to best meet
the needs of your children and the community.
You will find out about the success of our current
strategies such as the school bus, before school
activities, our Ready Set School program and the
extra personnell and teachers we have been able
to employ. We hope to see you there.

Year 5 & 6 Pre-Camp Briefing for Parents and
Students
A representative from The Great Aussie Bush
Camp will be joining us to run a briefing to answer
your questions and provide you with details about
our Stage 3 camp. This information briefing will
be held in Room 20 on Thursday 26 th July at
5:30pm.
Kindergarten News
Kindergarten has a very busy term ahead of them.
The following is a list of dates to place in your
diary for the term. More information for each of
these exciting events will be sent home closer to
the dates. If you have any questions regarding
any of these days please see your class teacher
after school.
Thank you very much for your prior payments for
the Stage 3 camp. A reminder that the final
payment of $110 is required by this Friday 27th
July.
Library News
Bookfair
Our annual Education Week bookfair starts next
week. The books are very, very cheap and range in
price from $1.50 - $12. Children will be able to
view the books this week. Buying will commence
Monday 30 th July. Here are the times:
Ø Mon, Wed: 8.45a.m. and lunch
Ø Tues, Thurs: lunch only
Ø Fri: All day – if you are visiting your
child’s classroom for Open Day, please
have a look at the bookfair.
There will also be books available for you to
donate to the library.
Bookclub
Issue 5 bookclub is due back at school on or
before Friday 3 rd August.
Bookweek Performer
On Wednesday 22 nd August, Bronwyn Vaughan will
be presenting a show for K-2 students to
celebrate Bookweek. The cost will be $4 per
student. A separate note will be sent home
shortly. We have had to cancel the Year 3-6
performer due to the Stage 3 camp.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
It is so pleasing to see lots of Stage 2 children
have completed the PRC. However, the number of
Stage 3 children who have finished is slightly
disappointing. There are about 4 weeks left for
children in Years 3-6 to finish reading their 20
books. K-2 children will all complete their
challenge as their teachers are reading the books
to them.

School Attendance
As part of our initiative to improve student
attendance, we will be trialing an SMS
notification system to inform parents and
caregivers of their child's absence from school.
The message will remind parents or caregivers to
provide an explanation for the absence. The
explanation can be provided in writing to the
classroom teacher or as a phone call to the school.
Only the parents or caregivers of students who

have an attendance rate under our school target
of 93% will automatically receive a text message
advising them of their child's absence.
The trial will begin from Monday 6th August. If
you have any questions, concerns or feedback
regarding the SMS notification system, please
contact Mrs Webb at school.
Woolworths Earn and Learn - 2012
UPDATE: Blairmount PS currently
has 35729 Earn and Learn points!
This is an outstanding effort and we have
exceeded our 2011 total of 22 389 points.
Due to its success, Woolworths has decided to
EXTEND its Earn and Learn points program.
Stickers can still be collected up until the 12 th
August 2012, so there is still time to bring in even
more.
We are very grateful for your continuous support
with this program.

Year 1 and 2 Grandparent’s Afternoon
The grandparents of our Year 1 and Year 2
students are invited to come to our school for a
Grandparent’s Afternoon on Tuesday 31 st July
at 12pm. There will be the opportunity to visit
your grandchild’s classroom and there will also be
some fun learning activities set up for you to
participate in with your grandchild. Following this,
afternoon tea will be provided. The afternoon
visit will end at 1:45pm.
A separate information sheet was sent home last
week with a return slip at the bottom indicating if
you will be attending. Please return the slip by
Friday 27 th July so that we know how many people
we need to cater for, for afternoon tea.
We look forward to meeting you and hope to see
you there.

Unfortunately from time to time our school
crossing supervisor is away and a replacement
cannot be found.
I would like the community to be aware that the
advice from NSW Transport is:
School Staff are NOT authorised to carry out
the duties of the School Crossing Supervisor
and must not use the STOP Children Crossing
bat nor the RTA safety vest.
Please be assured during these instances
teachers do remind students of the road saftey
messages;
Wherever psossible cross the road at a
designated pedestrian crossing facility
Stop! Look! Listen! Think! When crossing the
road
Take care whenever you cross
Don’t run across the road

Hooray for Hollywood Photographs Fundraiser – Only $2.00 Each
Recently your child performed in Blairmount Public School’s “Hooray for Hollywood” performance at
Eaglevale High School.
Professionally printed 6’x4’ photographs of most students in the evening performance are now on
display in our school hall until Friday 17 th August 2012 and are available for only $2.00 each.
All funds raised will go towards further developing our creative arts programs.
All orders need to be placed by Friday 17 th August 2012.

Garden Celebration
Come and see our edible gardens and learn how to use
fresh produce in your recipes.
When: Wednesday 8 th August, starting at 9 am
Representatives from the Macarthur Food Security Project and mwlp will
be holding food cooking demonstrations which will provide the participants
with morning tea and lunch. They will also talk about how to grow your own
fresh produce while showcasing our edible gardens.
Students will be able to join their parents for lunch.
All parents are invited but numbers are limited. Please indicate if you
would like to attend ASAP.
