LIST OF RECOGNISED QUALIFICATIONS<br />

PREAMBLES (JULY 2005 REVISION)<br />

1. The following list <strong>of</strong> qualifications accredited for registration by the Board <strong>of</strong><br />

Quantity Surveyors Malaysia (the Board) is applicable to full-time programmes<br />

conducted at the universities or colleges and by the awarding universities or<br />

colleges. The recognition is not applicable to degrees obtained through<br />

part-time studies, distance learning courses, twinning programmes,<br />

franchising arrangements and bridging schemes unless such programmes have<br />

been specifically accredited by the Board.<br />

2. Qualifications obtained through part-time studies, distance learning<br />

programmes, twinning programmes, franchising arrangements, bridging<br />

schemes or any other form <strong>of</strong> advanced entry with exemptions from parts <strong>of</strong><br />

the programme, or which do not require the students to undertake the entire<br />

programme at the awarding universities or colleges are to be so stated on the<br />

examination transcript/certificate/degree and made known to the Board at the<br />

time <strong>of</strong> application for registration.<br />

3. The accreditation <strong>of</strong> QS degree programmes is subject to a review by the Board<br />

as and when deemed necessary. As a basic requirement for continued<br />

accreditation, universities or colleges shall submit to the Board information on<br />

any change in the name, structure, syllabi, contents, entry requirements,<br />

duration, etc. <strong>of</strong> the programme.<br />

4. Holders <strong>of</strong> these qualifications must possess not less than five (5) credits in<br />

Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia or ‘O’ Level examinations (or other equivalent<br />

qualifications) which shall include Mathematics. However, holders <strong>of</strong> the<br />

following qualifications may be exempted from this requirement:-<br />

matured students over the age <strong>of</strong> 25 (when entering the awarding<br />

universities) and who have a minimum <strong>of</strong> five years post-SPM<br />

supervised experience in <strong>quantity</strong> surveying work approved by the<br />

Board, or<br />

matured students over the age <strong>of</strong> 21 (when entering the university,<br />

college or institution <strong>of</strong> higher learning for sub-pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

qualifications) and who have a minimum <strong>of</strong> three years post-SPM<br />

experience in <strong>quantity</strong> surveying work approved by the Board<br />

students who entered the degree programme at the awarding<br />

universities before 1997.<br />

5. Qualifications obtained via Advanced Entry into <strong>BQSM</strong>’s accredited<br />

programmes shall be subjected to the <strong>BQSM</strong>’s Guidelines for Advanced Entry<br />

into <strong>BQSM</strong>’s Accredited Degree Programmes which is available at the Board<br />

upon request.<br />

6. The Board has decided that from January 2002, only students admitted to the<br />

<strong>quantity</strong> surveying courses on the current list <strong>of</strong> recognised qualifications will<br />

be eligible on graduation to apply for registration as a Registered Graduate<br />

Quantity Surveyor with the Board without any topping up requirement.<br />

Graduates from universities whose <strong>quantity</strong> surveying courses are not on the<br />

list will be required to sit and pass the following papers in the Institution <strong>of</strong><br />

Surveyors Malaysia Direct Final Exam before being eligible to apply for<br />

registration as a Registered Graduate Quantity Surveyor with the Board:-<br />

a) Pr<strong>of</strong>essional Practice 2<br />

b) Measurement 3<br />

c) Development Economics and Cost Value Engineering<br />

7. This list will be updated from time to time. Intending students are strongly<br />

advised to check the current status with the Board or through our web-site<br />

before applying to or accepting <strong>of</strong>fers from foreign universities for <strong>quantity</strong><br />

surveying programme to avoid any problems later on when seeking to register<br />

with the Board. They should seek clarification or confirmation from the Board<br />

especially in respect <strong>of</strong> specific period or condition for accreditation <strong>of</strong> foreign<br />

universities.<br />
