16th March 2010, the Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia<br />

On had successfully organized a one day course on “Essentials for<br />

Professionals” at Bilik Gerakan, Level 6, Blok A, Kementerian Kerja Raya<br />

Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur.<br />

The course was designed to enhance the knowledge of principals,<br />

partners, and directors of professional practices on the operation and<br />

management of their business was conducted by Mr. M.K Han <strong>from</strong><br />

Arrow Training Company.<br />

• Legal Framework of a Practice<br />

SESSION WITH THE INSTITUTION OF SURVEYORS,<br />

MALAYSIA (ISM) SABAH BRANCH – 22 MARCH 2010<br />

Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia had a dialogue with<br />

The The Institution of Surveyors, Malaysia (ISM) Sabah Branch<br />

on the 22 March 2010 at The Pacific Sutera Harbour Resort, Kota<br />

Kinabalu, Sabah. 26 ISM members led by Sr Peter Ting, Chairman<br />

Session 2009/2010 attended the dialogue.<br />

• Scale of Fees and Practice<br />

• Representation <strong>from</strong> Sabah & Sarawak’s Private Sector in the<br />

Board<br />

• <strong>BQSM</strong>’s Website<br />

• Quantity Surveying Education<br />

• Reg. QS Security Chop<br />

• Test of Professional Competence (TPC)<br />

• Special Route For Registration as Registered Quantity Surveyor<br />

(Private Sector)<br />

• Continuing Professional Development (CPD)<br />

• Update on Liberalisation Status<br />

In ICT in construction the Board and CKUB, PWD has organized<br />

a workshop on 30th and 31st March 2010 at Computer Lab DBKL,<br />

Kuala Lumpur.<br />

The 2 days workshop was conducted by En. Khairil Hizar bin Md.<br />

Khuzaimah of CKUB, PWD and Dr. Mohd Idzuan Bin Alias of CIDB.<br />

More than 40 participants attended the said workshop.<br />

meeting with Northumbria University (NU) at Friends House, London<br />

A was held on 16.04.2010<br />

• The Northumbria University was represented by:<br />

- Mr Keith Hogg, Associate Dean (Development), School of<br />

Built Environment<br />

- Mr Glenn Steel, Director of Distance Learning<br />

- Ms Jan Stafford, Registrar<br />

- Mr Gillan Newby, MRICS, Riley Consulting<br />

• The representatives <strong>from</strong> <strong>BQSM</strong> were:<br />

- Associate Professor Sr Dr. Wan Maimun Binti Wan Abdullah<br />

- Sr Chua Siow Leng<br />

- Associate Professor Sr Nor Ainah Binti Abdullah<br />

Lately, several UK universities have been conducting Masters programme<br />

in quantity surveying to meet the increasing demand for non-cognates<br />

enter profession. The meeting was to learn more about MSc Surveying<br />

and MSc Construction (Quantity Surveying Pathway) programmes<br />

by conducted by the university which is delivered via the internet. NU<br />

presented the programme rationale, structure, entry requirements,<br />

delivery method, samples of teaching materials and students’ work<br />

based project, and the administration of the on-line programmes. A noncognate<br />

former graduate of the programme who is now employed in<br />

a quantity surveying firm gave some feedback on the relevance of the<br />

programme. The meeting ended with questions and answers session<br />

between NU and <strong>BQSM</strong> representatives.<br />
