Appendix A ■ Installing Tools Installing Spring Boot on a Mac OS X or Linux Remember to have the GVm tool installed. To install Spring Boot on your Mac or Linux, execute the following command: $ gvm install springboot To make sure that Spring Boot was successfully installed, execute the following command: $ spring --version Spring CLI v1.1.1.RELEASE Installing Spring XD Spring XD is part of the last chapter of the book, and even though it tells you how to install it, I’m putting more detailed instructions for Windows and Unix users here. Installing Spring XD on Windows Appendix A ■ Installing Tools To install Spring XD on Windows, you need to do a manual install (the same as Spring Boot). Go to http://projects.spring.io/spring-xd/ and go to the manual installation part and download the latest version shown there. In my examples, I use the spring-xd-1.0.0.M7-dist.zip file. Download it and uncompress it into the C:\Tools folder. Next, you need to add the XD_HOME variable and add the bin folder to the Path environment variable. So the XD_HOME can point to C:\Tools\spring-xd-1.0.0.M7\xd; also, add the following to the beginning of the Path environment variable: %XD_HOME%\bin;. Installing Spring XD on a Mac OS X Remember that you need to have Homebrew installed (if you haven’t installed it yet, go to the “Installing Homebrew” section of this appendix). To install Spring XD, execute the following commands: $ brew update $ brew tap pivotal/tap $ brew install springxd Summary Now you have all the tools necessary to compile, test, and run all the examples of this book.
