This has been a landmark year for Ipswich Grammar Debating. The Senior A team enjoyed two decisive victories
– round two against BSHS and round seven against Nudgee College – and every team from Years 8-11 has had at
least one win. Our Senior A and B teams performed exceptionally well, winning multiple rounds and breaking a
drought of losses.
The Senior A team consisted of Debating Captain Samuel Beaumont, Debating Vice-Captain James Murgatroyd,
Tom Walsh and John Scolaro, with Mark Paton stepping up from the Senior B team when required. The Senior B
team was Patrick Meehan, Mark Paton, Greg Beazley and Debating Vice-Captain Hamish Mival.
There were also many outstanding results from the Years 8-11 teams, which means Ipswich Grammar will be back
even stronger in 2013. This debating season included the following students:
Year 8: Cooper Nunn, Patrick Graham, Clancy Enchelmaier, Patrick Denny, Niel Hamman, Daniel Quinn and Wyatt
Cook.
Year 9: Alexander Leathem, Charlie Morton, Patrick Wilson, Patrick Moroney, Alec Walter, Sean Connell and
Remington Greenhill-Brown.
Year 10: Caelen Rafferty, Charles Mayne, Conor Tarpey, Jack Burrows, Lachlan Ross, Jordon Ross and Brailey Kugel.
Year 11: Tom Cochran, Jacob Butcher, Benjamin Russell, Mike Stower, Sebastian Fox and Matthew Waters.
Year 12: Sam Beaumont, James Mugatroyd, Tom Walsh, John Scolaro, Patrick Meehan, Mark Paton, Greg Beazley
and Hamish Mival.
Ipswich Grammar has been fortunate to have a group of talented coaches and co-ordinators, with Mr Brett
Dionysius coaching the Senior A and B teams, Miss Natalie Horrobin coaching the Year 11s, Mrs Maria Brown, Mr
Adam French and Mr Callum Senjov coaching the Year 10s, Mrs Jennifer Hoyle and Miss Rose Isbell coaching the
Year 9s and Mr Gordon Schroeder coaching the Year 8s.
Ipswich Grammar School is also blessed with the services of an experienced group of adjudicators. Their ethical
behaviour and total objectivity is testament to how seriously they take their position. These gentlemen were
Bradley Gooding, Travis Gooding, Daanish Januwala, Michael Esteban, Mitchell Grice and Callum Senjov. I would
also like to take this opportunity to thank all the supporters, volunteer chairpersons and timekeepers for their
support.
On a personal note, I assumed the MIC role on Dr John Volep’s behalf after he was injured in May. Dr Volep has
been a member of the Ipswich Grammar Debating community for many years and his leadership and guidance
continued to shine through even during his absence. I wish him well in his recovery. The 2012 season has been
a truly remarkable one which has shrugged off the bugbears of the past and bodes well for the future of Ipswich
