ADDENDUM A<br />

AMBER Alert Procedures<br />

A. An AMBER Alert shall be issued if all the following criteria are met:<br />

Is the child under 18 years of age?<br />

The abduction poses a credible threat of immediate danger of serious bodily harm or death to the child?<br />

Is there sufficient descriptive information about the child, suspect, and/or the circumstances surrounding<br />

the abduction to believe activation of the alert will help locate the child?<br />

Have we determined that the child is not a runaway and has not be abducted as a result of a family<br />

abduction, unless the investigation determines that the child is in immediate danger of serious bodily<br />

harm or death?<br />

If Yes to ALL of the above – proceed with:<br />

B. Enter into LEADS: Forms; Persons; Missing Persons; Enter; Missing Person:<br />

Complete form – Control Field (MNP) = AA (Amber Alert). NOTE: If you do not use this screen the below listed<br />

agencies will not be notified.<br />

Once you have transmitted this it will go to: State Highway Patrol at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC),<br />

the <strong>Ohio</strong> Attorney General’s Office, FBI and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).<br />

NCMEC and the EOC will contact the Police Department for additional and specific information. Be prepared to<br />

answer the following questions:<br />

1. What phone number should be entered into the toll free 1-877-AMBER-OH system?<br />

(614-855-8576)<br />

2. What Region would you like it broadcasted to? (See phone numbers on page 2)<br />

3. Specific information on the incident. Make sure you get specific information from the on-scene officers.<br />

4. Are you requesting other states to issue an alert?<br />

C. Complete the following:<br />

1. Get recent photo of missing child – preferably digital if available.<br />

2. Utilize OHLEG to obtain listing of local sex offenders, including their vehicles.<br />

3. Access the Missing Children Clearinghouse (MCCH) in OHLEG:<br />

a. Search to find your child entry<br />

b. Create a poster<br />

c. Follow the instructions on the “Alert” tab<br />

d. Issue Trucker and Media Alert<br />

e. Send cancellation if child is located<br />

f. Contact MCCH if further assistance is needed – 1-800-325-5604<br />

If known suspect is heading to another state send an Alert through LEADS: Forms; Misc.; Amber alerts; Out of<br />

State Amber Alert.
