Let us stop regurgitating content from the internet or Google, the truth is 80% of radio's audience have access to the internet. So by the time you go on radio, your information is history. Presenters need to learn to have an opinion and personality and learn to tell stories of things they observed, that way our listeners will gain a lot fresh content on radio. Difference between a community radio station, commercial radio station and public radio Community radio is owned and the community itself get involved in content generation. commercial radio is owned and operated by private companies where programing is dictated by the private company that own it and public radio station – owned by the government and it main responsibilty is to keep the citizens informed about the government's projects and inform the public about issues of national interest, while upholding and preserving citizens values and more. simple neh? Qualities of a good radio presenter To be a great presenter you need to have a personality that sets you apart from an average presenter, an individual who understands what the listeners need and want. Have an opinion on almost everything that the listeners are exposed to. A good presenter is an individual who aims to tell the listeners new stuff every time they are on air. They must be ultra-creative, use the microphone to change lives, someone who is doing radio to make a difference. It is not about fame. The presenter should have an honest relationship with the listeners and the listeners should know him as if they have met him in real life. Educational qualification for one to be on radio. No educational qualification needed, talent is all you need. But I'll hasten to say that education will really give you an added advantage, education will help you understand life better and therefor qualify to make logical and progressive comments on the radio. Presenters MUST respect the microphone, that thing right there is a very powerful communication tool. The 'worst' part of radio work and the 'best' part of radio work. Worst part is, when you do not have a clue of what you are doing on radio and the best – it's when you are completely in charge of your content or show and making a difference in the life of the listener. How easy or hard it is to start a radio station and what is needed to do so? Energy FM is the only urban community radio station by virtue of it being based in the capital city of the province. The programming ideas which are responding to the needs of the community prove to be resonating with the general community of Polokwane and the surrounding areas, the research that the facilitators conducted before going on air helped to shape the programmes that are currently on air and more feedback sessions will be held annually across the foot print to make sure that the community participates in keeping the radio station relevant to their values, dreams and more. People assume that you own Energy FM as an individual. Enlighten us on the ownership of a community radio station in particular Energy FM. No individual can own a community radio station, Energy FM is owned and managed by the community. Simphiwe Mdlalose and Myself are mentors or facilitators who have been tasked by the Energy FM board to transfer skills to the young and old individuals who are currently at Energy FM, it's main mission and vision is to be the breeding ground for new presenters who will soon join Commercial and public radio . The presenters at Energy FM are not there to stay; they are en-route to realising their full potential and dreams somewhere at a radio station in South Africa or the world. The type of training they are getting will equip them to handle any position at any radio station around the world. Give the station about two years and the presenters from Energy FM will take the radio industry by storm, this is after they graduate from the station. Ashifashabba's job at Energy FM. I am their Mentor and presenter of the weekday breakfast show, that's all. I am not part of the board nor the management. I love talking on the radio and making a difference in the lives of the listeners. Boardrooms are boring for me. I have a passion for teaching radio!! I breathe, eat, sleep and dream radio. First love - radio , comedy or acting? Radio is my first love, in fact comedy needs radio to reach more people you see, TV is a cool platform to show people how I look, it also helps me spread my brand.
