With reference to your application <strong>for</strong> admission to the above Ph.D. program in the Department, you are invited<br />

to appear <strong>for</strong> interview on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at 9.00 AM in the Department of Physics, Room No. MS-<br />

415, (3rd floor, Main Building) along with the interview <strong>call</strong> <strong>letter</strong>, provided you fulfill the following short<br />

listing <strong>criteria</strong>:<br />

NOTE:<br />

• Admission on a Part-Time (PT) basis will be as per Institute norms, i.e., all PT applicants should have a<br />

minimum experience of TWO years as on 1 st Aug 2013, but the short-listing <strong>criteria</strong> will be as above<br />

except <strong>for</strong> the requirement of GATE Score/UGC/CSIR/etc.<br />

• There will be no admission to Ph.D. Programme on self-sponsored basis.<br />

• There will be no direct admission to Ph.D. Programme.<br />

• C<strong>and</strong>idates whose final result of their qualifying degree is not yet declared, will be provisionally shortlisted<br />

<strong>for</strong> the interview, provided they have secured the necessary aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA<br />

(as mentioned above) in the results declared so far <strong>for</strong> the qualifying degree.<br />

• Applicants with B.Tech. from OTHER CFTI's having CPI/CGPA of 8.0 or above will be considered as<br />

shortlisted <strong>for</strong> interview.<br />

• Some applications have submitted partial in<strong>for</strong>mation, particularly the %marks/CGPA obtained in the<br />

pre-qualifying degree. This is to in<strong>for</strong>m all applicants that,<br />

(i) If you do not satisfy the above <strong>shortlisting</strong> <strong>criteria</strong>, please do not come <strong>for</strong> the interview, even if<br />

you receive the interview <strong>call</strong> <strong>letter</strong> by e-mail.<br />

(ii) If you satisfy the above <strong>shortlisting</strong> <strong>criteria</strong> <strong>and</strong> somehow do not receive the interview <strong>call</strong><br />

<strong>letter</strong> through e-mail, you may appear <strong>for</strong> <strong>Interview</strong>.<br />

Other general <strong>guidelines</strong> <strong>for</strong> the applicants:<br />

1. C<strong>and</strong>idates are advised to bring this interview <strong>call</strong> <strong>letter</strong> when they come <strong>for</strong> interview.<br />

2. Please go through the “In<strong>for</strong>mation Brochure” carefully be<strong>for</strong>e coming <strong>for</strong> the <strong>Interview</strong>.<br />

3. You are requested to bring with you the original GATE score card/ JRF-Award <strong>letter</strong> from<br />

CSIR/UGC/DST-INSPIRE, degrees/certificates/mark sheets of all the examinations passed, failing<br />

which you will NOT be allowed to appear <strong>for</strong> interview.<br />

4. In case you are employed you should also bring the “No Objection Certificate” (as per the <strong>for</strong>mat<br />

specified in In<strong>for</strong>mation brochure) from your employer, failing which you will not be interviewed.<br />

5. The non–creamy OBC c<strong>and</strong>idates are required to bring the signed certificate <strong>and</strong> declaration as per the<br />

<strong>for</strong>mats specified in the in<strong>for</strong>mation brochure.<br />

6. In case your M.Tech./M.Sc./B.Tech./B.E. in respective disciplines result is not yet declared, you may be<br />

considered <strong>for</strong> provisional admission. However, the result of your M.Tech./M.Sc./ B.Tech./B.E. must be<br />

produced by 31 Oct 2013, failing which the admission would be cancelled.<br />

7. Those applicants who fulfill the above <strong>criteria</strong> <strong>and</strong> appear <strong>for</strong> interview will be entitled <strong>for</strong> II nd class Rail<br />

fare both ways by the shortest route, provided thy have submitted required in<strong>for</strong>mation in the traveling<br />

allowance <strong>for</strong>m (along with the Journey ticket). The amount due to the eligible applicant will be sent to<br />

your address after the interview. Part time <strong>and</strong> Sponsored c<strong>and</strong>idates are not eligible <strong>for</strong> the traveling<br />

allowance.<br />

8. Please note that the selection is a 2 step process:<br />

(a) The names of the selected c<strong>and</strong>idates after the interview will be displayed on the notice board by<br />

the same day evening/next day morning. A list of available Ph.D. positions with various faculties<br />

will also be posted along with the list. A consent slip will be issued to the selected c<strong>and</strong>idates.<br />

(b) In the <strong>for</strong>enoon of 22 nd May, 2013, the selected c<strong>and</strong>idates can meet the prospective supervisors. In<br />

case a faculty agrees to supervise you, you should get the consent-slip signed by him/her. All those<br />

c<strong>and</strong>idates having the signed consent slip will be required to report to the meeting of DRC<br />

(Departmental Research Committee) at 3:00 PM, 22 nd May, 2013 in MS415 <strong>for</strong> <strong>for</strong>mally finalizing<br />

their selection under the said supervisor(s).<br />

9. Hostel accommodation during your stay <strong>for</strong> the interview may be provided on sharing basis on payment<br />

of Rs. 190/= per day (lodging <strong>and</strong> boarding) in VINDHYACHAL or SATPURA hostels (<strong>for</strong> boys) <strong>and</strong><br />

KAILASH or HIMADRI hostels (<strong>for</strong> girls). The bedding is not provided <strong>and</strong> all the c<strong>and</strong>idates will<br />

have to make their own arrangement <strong>for</strong> bedding. The payment shall be made by way of Dem<strong>and</strong> Draft<br />

in favor of “Director, IIT Delhi (hostel name) Hostel” (Example: “Director, IIT Delhi KAILASH<br />

Hostel”, etc.). On arrival in the campus, please contact the warden/caretaker office at the respective<br />

hostels.<br />

10. If selected, you will be required to deposit Rs. 12685/-(GE/OBC/PH) or Rs. 10185/- (SC/ST) as the<br />

institute dues EITHER (i) in cash with the Institute Cashier or SBI/ Canara Bank branches at IIT<br />

campus OR (ii) through Bank Draft in favor of REGISTRAR, IIT DELHI drawn on SBI, IIT, Hauz<br />

Khas, New Delhi (Bank Code 1077) or Canara Bank, New Delhi (Bank Code 1745). Fee once paid <strong>for</strong> a<br />

particular program will not be adjusted/ transferred if the student gets selected subsequently <strong>and</strong> joins in<br />

another program.<br />
