of short-listed candidates with faculty on Wednesday, May 22, 2013
With reference to your application for admission to the above Ph.D. program in the Department, you are invited
to appear for interview on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at 9.00 AM in the Department of Physics, Room No. MS-
415, (3rd floor, Main Building) along with the interview call letter, provided you fulfill the following short
listing criteria:

NOTE:
• Admission on a Part-Time (PT) basis will be as per Institute norms, i.e., all PT applicants should have a
minimum experience of TWO years as on 1 st Aug 2013, but the short-listing criteria will be as above
except for the requirement of GATE Score/UGC/CSIR/etc.
• There will be no admission to Ph.D. Programme on self-sponsored basis.
• There will be no direct admission to Ph.D. Programme.
• Candidates whose final result of their qualifying degree is not yet declared, will be provisionally shortlisted
for the interview, provided they have secured the necessary aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA
(as mentioned above) in the results declared so far for the qualifying degree.
• Applicants with B.Tech. from OTHER CFTI's having CPI/CGPA of 8.0 or above will be considered as
shortlisted for interview.

• Some applications have submitted partial information, particularly the %marks/CGPA obtained in the
pre-qualifying degree. This is to inform all applicants that,
(i) If you do not satisfy the above shortlisting criteria, please do not come for the interview, even if
you receive the interview call letter by e-mail.
(ii) If you satisfy the above shortlisting criteria and somehow do not receive the interview call
letter through e-mail, you may appear for Interview.
Other general guidelines for the applicants:
1. Candidates are advised to bring this interview call letter when they come for interview.
2. Please go through the “Information Brochure” carefully before coming for the Interview.
3. You are requested to bring with you the original GATE score card/ JRF-Award letter from
CSIR/UGC/DST-INSPIRE, degrees/certificates/mark sheets of all the examinations passed, failing
which you will NOT be allowed to appear for interview.
4. In case you are employed you should also bring the “No Objection Certificate” (as per the format
specified in Information brochure) from your employer, failing which you will not be interviewed.
5. The non–creamy OBC candidates are required to bring the signed certificate and declaration as per the
formats specified in the information brochure.
6. In case your M.Tech./M.Sc./B.Tech./B.E. in respective disciplines result is not yet declared, you may be
considered for provisional admission. However, the result of your M.Tech./M.Sc./ B.Tech./B.E. must be
produced by 31 Oct 2013, failing which the admission would be cancelled.
7. Those applicants who fulfill the above criteria and appear for interview will be entitled for II nd class Rail
fare both ways by the shortest route, provided thy have submitted required information in the traveling
allowance form (along with the Journey ticket). The amount due to the eligible applicant will be sent to
your address after the interview. Part time and Sponsored candidates are not eligible for the traveling
allowance.
8. Please note that the selection is a 2 step process:
(a) The names of the selected candidates after the interview will be displayed on the notice board by
the same day evening/next day morning. A list of available Ph.D. positions with various faculties
will also be posted along with the list. A consent slip will be issued to the selected candidates.
(b) In the forenoon of 22 nd May, 2013, the selected candidates can meet the prospective supervisors. In
case a faculty agrees to supervise you, you should get the consent-slip signed by him/her. All those
candidates having the signed consent slip will be required to report to the meeting of DRC
(Departmental Research Committee) at 3:00 PM, 22 nd May, 2013 in MS415 for formally finalizing
their selection under the said supervisor(s).
9. Hostel accommodation during your stay for the interview may be provided on sharing basis on payment
of Rs. 190/= per day (lodging and boarding) in VINDHYACHAL or SATPURA hostels (for boys) and
KAILASH or HIMADRI hostels (for girls). The bedding is not provided and all the candidates will
have to make their own arrangement for bedding. The payment shall be made by way of Demand Draft
in favor of “Director, IIT Delhi (hostel name) Hostel” (Example: “Director, IIT Delhi KAILASH
Hostel”, etc.). On arrival in the campus, please contact the warden/caretaker office at the respective
hostels.
10. If selected, you will be required to deposit Rs. 12685/-(GE/OBC/PH) or Rs. 10185/- (SC/ST) as the
institute dues EITHER (i) in cash with the Institute Cashier or SBI/ Canara Bank branches at IIT
campus OR (ii) through Bank Draft in favor of REGISTRAR, IIT DELHI drawn on SBI, IIT, Hauz
Khas, New Delhi (Bank Code 1077) or Canara Bank, New Delhi (Bank Code 1745). Fee once paid for a
particular program will not be adjusted/ transferred if the student gets selected subsequently and joins in
another program.
