MARIPOSA TWENTY-FIVE.
What's in a number?
cultural consciousness".
The twenty-fifth birthday marks a
watershed for Mariposa. Let there be
laurels. but let them'not be rested on.
We carry the past with us in our
organizational history as much as in
the tradition-based culture we aim to
promote. Let's use it the way we use
the old songs to help create the new.
Out of the past, into the future. Join
"l can't believe
it's been that long!" many remark.
How can it have survived through so
much? The answer is in the
thousands of individuals who have
wanted it to be, and who have
volunteered whole parts of their lives,
their energy, and their spirit to put on
twenty-five years of festivals and
other programs.
Sure the music, dance, crafts, etc.,
are what it's about, or at least its
'raison
d'6tre'. But there is so much
about an organization like Mariposa
that the music doesn't touch. The
music brings the audience, and so
initially does it bring the organizers,
the volunteers. lt provides a common
bond, a fire in the soul.
That fire in the soul has survived
