»The film is the staged documentation of a fictive exhibition Lying Down Art, in which
all artworks presented in different ways deal with the theme ‘Lying’. The film deals with
models of presenting the ‘art world’ on TV. In formal terms, it is based on the typical
structure and aesthetic of cultural journals and TV reports on ‘significant’ art events with
a whole discourse being created on the rather ambivalent theme such as ‘Lying in Art’.
With all its ambiguity the concept of lying in the film becomes an allusive metaphor for
thinking, meditating, observing, reflecting, for a socio-critical attitude and for a subversive
strategy of action. ‘Lying’ in reference to the art scene is also an ironic metaphor
for an alternative modus vivendi and an alleged freedom of ‘art producers’ to select
one’s own working methods. The film emerges in a field of tension between conventional
form and the subversive content as an exploration of patterns and clichés that are
to be found on art reports transmitted in the usual TV formats. Customary TV conventions,
however, are constantly being subverted, as a result of which the film assumes a
slightly parodying character. Both staged and documentary shots are used in the film.«
