Albrecht Schäfer Malewitsch Museum Biberach, 2002/2005 Laserprint on paper, 306 x 552 cm »In 1927 Malevich travelled to Berlin to participate in the ‘Great Berlin Art Exhibition’. For unknown reasons he had to leave earlier for Russia. He left behind all paintings which he had entrusted to the architect Hugo Häring until the planned return. Malevich never saw his paintings again. In a meandering odyssey Häring brought the paintings which became a risk to own in the Nazi period, to his Swabian home town Biberach in 1943. After the war he offered the town the paintings for a very low price. The town rejected the offer. Häring then sold the paintings to the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, where they are still located. What would have happened if the paintings had not been sold to Holland, but had remained in the small town of Biberach? At this point the fictive project begins: The town of Biberach buys the collection and builds the Malevich Museum Biberach for it following a controversial public debate.« 58
